Love love love this track on LFS.. great to see it ported to AC! The 0.94 version had some weird bugs..., hopefully fixed in this update.

He uses haxxors!!

Bahhh, that records a "gimme".  I don't think anyone has really tried too hard there to set a good lap in the FA.  I reckon the long-term record would be at least a couple of seconds below that.  The recent track update may have also reset RSR.

Which makes me especially slow given my hax!

I tried really hard for my 1m10s :(

I'll put my setup for that in my setups Dropbox folder when I get home from work.  See if that helps, although it feels like it's had a night out at the Blue Oyster bar as it's a little loose in the rear. Easily fixed with a click or two of rear wing though.  It's basically just a setup for the FA from another track with a couple of small changes.

That's generally how I develop my setups, most of it is car based, to suit my style, with only minor adjustments (ie. dampers, ARB, gearing and aero) for different tracks.

How do you make an AI file? I'll give it a go tonight...
Title: Re: Tue July 22 Trial Race: Formula Abarth at Blackwood
Post by: Gratulin on July 18, 2014, 03:28:39 PM
There seems to be an underlying problem with the track boundary definitions (being converted from LFS means there are the alternate track layouts still in the track definitions, for example, along the back straight there are turn-offs where the LFS rally-cross track goes).  This may be what makes defining an AI file difficult. I have managed to get the AI included with the track to work by defining only 3 opponents with me as the 1st car. This means there is only one AI on the left of the start grid and it zips across behind the cars on the right side of the grid, avoiding the cars locking together. At 94% they are doing 1:13s.

Do you create AI for each individual car by driving a line yourself?  So you could make different AI lines for 22+ cars?

If it was relatively easy it would be fun for a few us to each drive our own line of a track and then put each of those AI files in one to create a field of AI drivers each with our own different driving lines.  If you get me.

Would be nice, but AC only supports a single AI line per track I think. There is some discussion in the forums about some of the tuning parameters being car specific but that is only speculation I think. The problem with this track is the boundaries are wrong ie not aligned with the edge of the track. Take a look at the RED lines when recording AI and you will see what I mean. The AI recording is dependent on these RED lines being properly aligned to the track edges. My attempts at recording an AI line just ended with the AIs doing about 1kph before getting kicked back to pits. Maybe someone else has more success than me  :)

If nobody has done it yet I will make one up, pretty simple for a short track and Ive made a few that can give me a bit of a fight. No corners here where they shouod have major issues but the first chicane may be the achilles heel for them.  ;)

Post by: marty on July 18, 2014, 08:51:21 PM
Just had a look at the AI file and the track surfaces are very poorly mapped here and so I cant make an AI file where they will actually drive beyond the first turn due to this and they all retire. Sadly the guy making these tracks really doesnt put too much effort into them or learning how to do things properly so until he fixes that the Ai will be useless here. Also seen by holes in the track and other fairly poor conversion issues.

The track looks nice but thats more down to the guys that actually built the original track the conversions themselves and how they are implemented in AC is fairly poor here and most other tracks I have seen by this guy. Including some pretty dodgy credits to random people when many are ripped straight from codemasters and hes just converting another guys rip who really doesn't have any rights to the source.   :)

Updated Track released 0.9.7

http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/blackwood.2639/

Edit: Not sure if anyone cares but this version has issues with the grass for example on one exit if you touch the grass on the left after the first chicane the car stops and you have to go to the pits.

Are your servers down Wally? Or is it just "No Dicks" now and I can't see them? In that case I'm sure Marty can't see them either.

I will take another look at it, the pitlane speed lim8t means he has done some work on the surface settings. The actual AI fastline included was made by a real alien and has a good line. Just the surfaces being poorly mapped and also the file wasnt properly saved meant it couldnt work properly.

Smooth as butter with 2 cars on track, anyway. And the drafting definitely works. Don't forget to upgrade to 0.97 of the track.

So far, nice and smooth. Replays are nice and smooth too, and smaller in filesize, so you'll probably get the whole race now. It's also smooth from other cars' viewpoints in the replay.

I'll be running this race on the big server. There's a server-side setting that controls how often the clients connected to the server are updated - 15 times per second by default. If my calculations are correct, I'll be able to increase this to 100 times per second, i.e. updating the clients about 6 times more frequently than the default setting. The server upload capacity I've measured is amazing - 68 MB/s! That's megabytes.

It was a good night. Plenty of laughs and a few tears.

Here is Dick's 2 cents..
Was good to see improvements in the net code or what ever it is. But still a bit of work to be done. There might not be jumping all over the place but now there are huge lag spikes which will cause cars to jump meters instead of a just jitter about.
I think that was causing a few of the 1st corner incidents. Being one of the slowest guys ever to grab hold of a steering wheel I see a few of these incidents 1st hand.
You don't win races by being overly cautious. Yes, got to give room. but giving more than is needed is going to cost you big time. I Know cause I do give tons of room and usually, if no one crashes, I'll be 200-500 meters behind by the 1st-2nd corner.
You all know it. you gotta be on the button 100% of the time.

I think warping / jumping caused most of the incidents last night. Even in a straight line I warped or was warped onto, almost directly on top of me. If that happens on the 1st chicane then it's going to get nasty.
The cars go into auto-spin-of-death which is totally unrealistic most of the time. bad luck if you are near someone when this happens.
Racing comes with a dose of bad luck that you need to be mentally prepared for. Just pull up your skirt and get on with it.
100's of laps, 100's of races yet to be had will also be ruined. It's part of the sport. Every 5-6 of my laps are ruined.
meh. There is always next lap.
Assetto Warpa is still in development so it's got it's own share of bad luck so we have to be ready for that too.

Shame Blackwood is broken. It's the nicest fantasy track I've seen and really enjoy it. and I'm very anti-fantasy track. It's got some awesome elements. If it was 100% I'd vote for it.

No matter how many laps i did. i could not break 1:12 i'm blaming Guybrushes set up.

I had fun last night.  Some good racing in there.

I didn't really see much wrong with Blackwood.  The only obvious things were the black holes which I haven't come across since it's first release but apparently are there.  Once these are fixed, the grass has more "grassy" properties and the skid-marks are fixed it will be pretty much right IMO.  I'm tipping a lot of these are probably fixed in the latest update which has just been released...

There was the issue of getting beached at certain areas but this is probably more a result of the car and track combo than an error in the track conversion, as I'm sure there are tracks around the world where this could happen in real life.

Good fun yesternight.  I haven't seen the warping you talk about, Dick.  But on the replay there are some funny shit happening at the start of R2...

But there were a bit too many T1 incidents.  I've caused one in R2 I reckon.  Just had a quick look at the replay and I went in too hot locking up the fronts and sliding wide...sorry gents.

And btw LFS had only fantasy tracks, and they're pretty much all damn good.  RSC has one, too, and that's pretty darn good, too.  The fact is, people can make a very good fantasy tracks, same as real life. :)

1st replay I looked at I found it. It was start of race 1.

classic warping that took two of us out. I couldn't stop spinning across the track. It's in 3x slow motion. I cut the clip in pretty early so it happens in the 1st few seconds.
watch the car directly in front.

That was a fun night... smashed my previous PB by close to a second so I was stoked... I think I was following Marty, so thanks for the race/brakeline and thanks Guybrush for the setup  ;D

Will review the "incident" on race 2 between Freezer and myself over my replay... lol all good, was racing and so far over the course of it all I've been pretty lucky to come out generally unscathed...

Still to qualify 10th (with my shiny new PB), get tapped... spin and end up 19th to get back to 12th was awesome fun in itself   ;D

Once again I surprised myself how much I enjoyed driving these cars.  With no memory of the track I was happy with 1:12, fighting it out with Dick on the RSR leader board for our positions :)
Pleased that the 'setup' now has 'generic' settings for FFB and FF with a 'sick' shoulder.
And Imp, race 2, THAT WAS ME! found the grass with the offside wheels and become a passenger veering across the track, sorry.
The skins look fantastic, the server in the races were 'rock solid' in my experience. So g8 work all round.
Race 2 I clicked the gearing *2 instead of *1 and found I lost my some pace, (sorry using that word with my racing  :P).

For my first run in these cars it was a good night, they're pretty agile which for me is a preference over the more tail happy types.
Whilst I did see some small moments of warping I found no issues with the track in general.
Racing wise I ran super low downforce in the first race (2:2) which was great down the straights but had to nurse it in the bends.  Then I switched to the opposite (high DF) which allowed me to be alot more agressive.  Had a bit of a tangle with Rolz where whilst he moved over a bit I didn't appreciate the frontal length (unseen) of my car and to my surprise we hooked up.  Aside from that I had a good night of racing.

Was a good nights racing, I couldn't believe how much grip the track had, felt the quickest in a long time.

I think I qualed around 8th for the first race but was way off pace on mediums. Then I played with my set too much, lost my HUD and lost my mojo. 2nd qual and race was just meh and the 3rd race was a disaster, ended up retiring.

Thanks to everyone that put up with dodging me on track. See you at Silverstone.
