Title: S11R1: Barbagallo pre-race chat
Post by: Wally on March 29, 2016, 11:10:33 PM
3 x 16 laps (track download) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/n2ci6515kouf178/barbagallo1.2.zip?dl=0)

This will be the only round with a qualifying session before race 1, which will only be short (10 mins). After that, everything will be a set, reverse grid.

On the final right-hander, make every effort to keep at least 2 wheels to the right of the left kerb.

Make sure you have the latest version of the PLP app downloaded from here (http://xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=758.0).

There goes my favourite,  or at least my normal line :)

It would be good if all tracks made anything outside of the normal racing surface have reduced grip so it would come up as a cut.

Does PLP have a tolerance for surfaces with reduced grip Wally?  I'm guessing it would have as there are different surface grip levels in AC.  Or is it a proportionate grip difference that is looked at?

Each surface is marked in the track as being valid track or not. Grip doesn't come into it. But if a surface makes your tyres dirty, it's also regarded as invalid track.

How about we don't make a fuss every time there's a bit of extra surface to use?  Let it be known, and let it go, I say.  It's getting wearisome.

OK, then just send Wally pictures of cars, cats, dogs, and anything else you can think of, so I keep myself busy with that instead of arguing about track cuts ;)

Yes, it's good enough in the context of the game's limitations. Let's talk about racing!

I've put my setup in Stracker if anyone wants a go.  Still haven't mastered this track though.  It's a tricky little bugger.

New PLP version (1.11) to download HERE (http://xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=758.msg12369).

This fixes the jump start penalties that we saw on changing from qually to race.

I think most xgn guys at least the older ones are set as admins on stracker. They can change session lengths. No need to login as admin they just need to type
/st session qtime 30
That would make qualy 30 minutes
You can also change race laps by typin

/st session rlaps 10
That would make race 10 laps, obviously you can use any number you like.

Then you just need to skip sessions and it will use the new session lengths.

I wont be home til fairly late but anyone can chamge that up. I will add all other xgn guys in as stracker admins later so anyone can change session lengths for practicing.

I certainly can't change the quali time on the praccy server.
It says command not recognised.
then:
not in admins group

Which one it is?  :/

I've tried the /admin command successfully (you're now admin for this server), still the same thing happened

I'm pretty sure u can be server admin, but then there is stracker admin as well.

Gb do you run a different setup here after the update?  This old one seems to lose a lot of speed in corners - the tyre model must have changed a bit.

I will go through the stracker admins and add all known xgn guys to the group, I thought you surely would have been in but I know wont be home til tomorrow so I hope someone managed to change times. If you see Cherno or QC in they can also make the changes. You dont need to log in as admin as stracker admin is seperate and these can only be added via admin features in stracker itself which I will do now.

yeah I've moved off GB's setup since the update... also I've found leaving TC on is better for me...
I'm not good enough to have it off.

I gained a second with TC off, still using Guy's set (never got to try it before the update).

I logged into stracker admin and for some reason I cant change admins atm.

Current stracker admins are
Standam
Rolz
Phil.8
Guybrush
Wally
Gratulin
Mael
QC
Cherno

So any of those guys can change the session lengths in server or Wally can change them also via server config and restart the server.

I will add all xgn guys in the current season tomorrow as stracker admins and will update to latest experimental build,

Does anyone know what 7.1 sound does in the head phones?  I have a remote where you can turn it on or off, which makes me wonder why you would turn it off?

Title: Re: S11R1: Barbagallo pre-race chat

I maybe wrong, but 7.1 is "made" out of stereo by mixing things in all sort of funny ways, i.e. software trying to guess where things should sound. That can degrade quality.

Now, more importantly though...in a headphone 7.1. is madness.  Think about it.  You've two ears, two cans are covering it; each ear can detect sound - BUT NO DIRECTION!
So you basically give directional sound to a non-directional receiver.  If that's not a waste then nothing is.

Quality cans over gimmicks, anytime for me ;)
(I'm using some Beyerdynamic T90's - I can only recommend them highly)

I'd expect your headphones to make my dinner for 7 x the price!

But for around $100 the ones I got are rated as some of the best:
http://m.au.ign.com/articles/2015/04/24/hyperx-cloud-2-review

It seems 7.1 is good for games that are mixed with 7.1 audio in mind.  I'm not sure how to tell with AC but I assume it has it as it was neat listening to other cars tyres screech and moan all around me and hear the sound pass behind me, in front, etc. with a nice transitioning effect.

It seems 7.1 is particularly useful for FPS games though, and being able to identify the position of enemy based on where their footsteps are coming from, etc.

Yep, definitely. Anybody who has played an FPS with a 5.1 or 7.1 headset would realise that it really isn't a gimmick.

7.1 only makes sense if you actually have 7 speakers around the room - then your *two* ears can pick it up where it comes from.
In headphones, it makes no difference, as I said, because you just can't tell where it's coming from with one ear. (think: you are not hearing any of the speakers in the left earpiece with your right ear!)
It's a gimmick.

And yes, my cans make my dinner, regularly.  Sometimes even a breakfast. :D

On the cheap, the AudioTechnica ATH-AD700 is highly recommended everywhere.  It's light and sounds pretty damn good for the price.  I've used them before the beyer.

I've tried some other cheaper cans (i.e. below $300); sennheiser, bose, and a few really cheap ones, but they were either uncomfortable, sounded crap, or bad build quality (that was the bose!) or all of these.  It's surprising how many companies try to sell audio equipment without even making an effort, sadly.  And people are just buying it.

Although a disclaimer here; most people can't make out a difference between mediocre and high quality sound equipment.  So it may not be an issue, really - except for those who do want something better than average.

Edit:
oh, sorry; I did not mean to poo-poo the quality of those headphones of yours, even though it now sounds like it. I've never listened in on them, so they maybe very good - if you like the sound, it's good.  The microphone certainly sounds miles ahead of what you had before :)  But the 7.1 in headphones - that part is useless.
