Start Times
All times are EASTERN Daylight Savings time.
Practice: 7:30pm, 60 mins

Race 1: 8:50pm
-- server restart --
Qualifying 2: 15 mins
Race 2: 9:20pm
Ballast
Ballast will be assigned after each race. The faster you are compared to others, the more ballast you get, in a nutshell. Your ballast may go up and down. You will get bonus points for carrying more ballast.
Points
15 min race, 24,23,22… points down.
30 min race, 48,46,44… points down.
Bonus points and penalties are 2x in the longer races. - Ballast bonus: 0.5 pts for every whole 30 kg carried.
- Team points are the accumulation of the individual team member's points. If a reserve stands in for an absent team member, they score points for the team.
- Each driver's worst round is dropped, and the worst team round is also dropped.
- Fastest lap bonus: 1 points awarded at the end of each race for the driver who sets the fastest lap time.
Weather
Air/track temps and cloud cover will be as per the real world location on the day, but there won’t be any rain. Grip will always start from about 95% and rise.
Penalties
- If a driver hits someone carelessly in turns 1 or 2 at the start of a race and it pushes them off the track or spins them, they get a 4 point penalty, and the driver hit will get a 4 point bonus. Because of the point penalty, you don’t have to redress any gained positions in turns 1 or 2 only.
- If a driver gets two turn 1 or 2 penalties in a season, they will have to skip the first qualifying session of the next round and start the race from the back of the grid.
- No other penalties will apply. The usual respect for other drivers and redressing unfairly gained positions will be expected as always.
Rules
- Track Limits. The Pit Lane Penalty app 1.5 or greater is mandatory. More than 3 cuts will result in a 10 second post-race penalty. Details of the app are here: http://www.xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=758.0 (http://www.xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=758.0)
- Speeding in pit lane. Speeding in pit lane during a race session will result in a 10 second post-race penalty. Speeds above 90 kph will be penalised.
- Redress. If you gain position advantage over another driver by colliding with them such that their car leaves the track, or by cutting the track yourself, you are expected to redress your position as soon as safely possible. Gaining position by "reasonable" side-by-side contact is allowed, but rear collisions must be avoided. This won't be enforced. It is an honour system.
- Track Re-entry. You must always re-enter the track with extreme caution. Any collision on re-entry must be redressed.
- Assists. Driving assists like ABS and TC can be used only if available on the car. There is no forced driving view.
- Map and Mirrors. To assist in knowing where other cars are around you and on track (especially for leaving pits and re-entering the track after a spin), it is recommended to use the virtual mirror (F11) and turn on the track map which shows the nearby cars.
- Tyres. There are no restrictions on tyre choice.

Some important points:
- See the red text for changes from last season.
- PLP app version 1.5 is mandatory, to enforce pit lane speeding penalties [LINK (http://www.xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=758.0)]
- I want to see everybody in a two man team. All this really means is that you will both be contributing points to your team tally. If you want to go a little further, you can do your best not to run your team mate off the track. A little further again, and you can share setups and tips etc.
So when you sign up, nominate yourself to join a team. All you have to do is make up a team name. Anyone who's not in a team will be put into a team by headmaster Wally.
P.S. I've put myself into Phil.8's team "Pow. R. Toc. H Racing".
- Speeding in pits: it's not always immediately obvious where the pit lane speed limit starts at each track. The PLP app shows a green square when you're in pits and the speed limit applies (and you're not speeding - red when you are speeding). You can use this square, and a little practice, to find out exactly where the pit lane speed limit starts, in a practice or qualifying session.

I'm in, Aleph Null Ltd. 8)

I'm in! Golden Goat Gatherers ftw!
-
Please, yes. Not sure if Marty is in though for the team.
-
Not sure when I will be back from the next trip but I think we fly back on the 12th so should make the first round and should be home til the end of October after that, I will likely be away for all of November though. I think I will just go down as a reserve and if there is a spot when I am home I will run those rounds.

Excellent Joe, complete with team name!
-
I'm afraid I'm out for this Season Wally, as my poor old computer continues to give me Runtime Errors when trying to race on-line with the FR3.5
Like the Caterham Mod it crashes as it loads the cars. I am pretty sure its memory related as both mods run OK off-line in Hotlap mode.
Good racing and have fun guys.
-
I'm in Wally . . . and I have made a start on my skin also!

That's bad luck, Rob. There may be a relatively simple and cheap improvement you can do, like putting more memory in. How much RAM have you got?

A reminder for those not on daylight savings - times will be on Eastern Daylight Savings time.

I'm still running 32 bit Wally so RAM is already maxed out. I know its time for an upgrade, but that's not even on the horizon at present.

Can you run an offline race with AI with the same number of cars? You'd think that would put the same stress on the hardware. I saw you trying join on Tuesday night; a message kept appearing at the top of the screen saying you'd joined the server. Wally, perhaps something in the logs that explains why he couldn't get in?
EDIT: Hey look my 400th post. If I can't win at racing I can at least try with post count!

Thanks Joe, its a pretty fiddly process to get right...!

Hey Joe (make a good name for a song), I tried with 15 AI opponents but starting from the rear of the grid it was pretty much a slide show and the FFB felt a bit wonky also.
Thanks mate for trying to help, appreciated.

Sure is. I was originally trying to make my template look nice by masking out the right areas to paint etc, then that was taking too long so I just brought up the wireframe and used a massive brush not caring if I went over the lines I knew would be cut off anyway ;D

That sucks mate, we often have some fun battles. Have you tried turning your graphics settings right down? I have reflections off due to being on a mobile GPU as it seems to be the heaviest setting graphics wise. Odd that AC totally craps out for you when joining the online server.
The FFB is wonky with this car unless you use their recommended settings.
-
Yes, yes, please, Wally!
I have not heard from Rolz, but I'd be happy to keep the DA Racing experience going.
-
If there is a Red Bull skin I'd be keen to use that in honour of the great Sir Daniel Ricciardo.
-
I'm noting all skin requests. I'll give each pair of teammates the same skin.

I'd like to join in again Wally

DA Racing is proud to announce it has renewed for a further season with both its official drivers. We are happy to continue our adventure with the same drivers who joined us since our first race and gave us so many satisfactions last season.
DA Racing is also currently discussing details with a major sponsor in the soft-drinks industry (http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/formula-renault-3-5-additional-skin-pack.6950/) and hopes to be able to announce its official partnership for season 9 soon.
We wish again to thank Kellogg's for their support in Season 8. They have chosen to invest in us when we could offer no guarantee but our enthusiasm and determination. Thank you.

Been tinkering with it some more. Think I'm done. Takes forever!

I'll make a skin download before the season starts.

Wally: I confirm we have reached an agreement with The Coca-Cola Company for Season 9, with renewal option for another season. :)

Tyre blankets or not this series Wally? ???

Tyre blankets or not this series Wally? ???
If someone can tell me how badly cold tyres grain on race start, I'll let you know. I do prefer the challenge of starting on cold tyres, and also seeing someone come out of pits in front of you during a race, knowing they're probably not up to speed on cold tyres.
-
I haven't done a start but they didn't grain much out of the pits cold. ;)
-
Doesn't the real series use tyre blankets?
Either way, they don't take long to warm up with such downforce and grip.

I don't think so, from some TV coverage I've seen.
-
I've had no issues without them. 8)
-
How are the contact physics in the mod, I saw the real thing seems to have some major collision bugs still. :D

Wally, I'll be reserving again for this series. I can race in the first round however if there is a slot once everyone signs up. Thanks.

Hey Stan, shall I do you a version with a number on it? Or just go for the same one for both of us? Not really any extra effort. If we're gonna use numbers I think mine will be 69, just because I'm still an immature idiot and it makes me laugh every time I see or hear the number ;D

Hi Joe,
is it easy to add numbers? Is it something you think Rolz and I can try as well? (I know nothing of anything, so it must be really easy or I probably can't do it).

I made my skin myself grat so I have the photoshop template and can just add a number. I think you guys are using a skin somebody else made? If so you can open the .dds file in photoshop which converts it to an image, then you could add a number and save it back as a dds file. Never tried if this works but assume it should. I can give it a quick try and let you know when I add the numbers to mine over the weekend.

That sounds already too complicated to me... but thanks a lot for trying to explain it. Hopefully it will be useful, if not for me, for somebody else.

Added that fuel multiplier in race 2 is 3x. Tyres are 1x.
This means in the 19 lap race 2 at Imola, for example, you'll have to pit once somewhere between lap 5 and 14.

Oh hey Mael. We've had some good battles on Marty's servers :)
Hi Mael, also had some good races with you. Next time Im home I will jump on the pub servers a bit more too as last I looked they got a bit quiter since Ive been away.
I doubt I will make round 1 though as the jetlag took me a couple days to get over coming to europe and heading home on the Monday I doubt I will be too up for it for round 1 so Wally put me as last reserve for the first round.

I'll run 27 if no one has already taken it. I am not great with thinking up team names. Could just go with the generic caterpillar racing.

Hi Wally,
can you clarify how ballast works? I thought that after my very disappointing first race I would have been ballast-free in the second, but instead I had quite a bit. (Not complaining, of course. Just curious.)
Also: the name links on race 1 reports seem not to work. Does not really matter, but thought you might care.
Thanks a lot for the great organization. Looks like it will be a great season!

The ballast is worked out by your fastest lap time, not how well you did in the race.
Here's how it works. The average fastest lap in race 1 was 1:33.342. Whoever was faster than that gains ballast (the faster they are, the more ballast they get). Who ever was slower than that, loses ballast (in this opening race, because we all started on 0kg, no one loses ballast of course, but this is how it works in future races).
This is what I do (automatically, via my program) for every race - looking at the average fastest lap in the race, then adjusting ballast up or down for everyone accordingly. What I also do is look at how much a certain amount of ballast slowed people down, averaging it out with more and more data, because as you can imagine, everyone's different and there are many variables. But it soon settles onto a pretty good average. The more races we do, the better it gets.
And I fixed the links - thanks.

Ok, understood: I guessed it was probably something like that.
Looking at race 2 laps, it looks like I'll be quite heavy next time. Better I take it into account when (trying to) setting up the car.
Cheers!

Yep - the practice server is set up with your ballast.

Yes, I'll make sure I'm notified of absences so you can get a run.
