A car that can do both, be my daily and my track car. At the moment there is the hassle of car trailers (hire of) and reliability, not knowing if a problem will pop up or not on the track day, is hard to predict when they sit for so long in between events and having three kids, it is hard to find proper time and the money do have such a luxury as a track car. Also I have two cars to look after, ensure they are maintained and getting love, having one would be easier and makes more sense. So the search began for a car that ticked a few boxes, On top of my list was coil overs with adjustable camber and damper. It also needed to hold it's own power wise, not back yard built, nothing stupid but good honest power from the factory and I didn't want something to heavy either and all this for as cheap as possible. I started talking to my Dad about this and he got talking about someone else that is changing from his normal class of racing to a new class. WRX series GC8's. Not my favorite car but performance wise they ticked all the boxes, but I just couldn't bring myself to something that was so bland, There were just so many of them around in the 90's and now, they aren't old enough to be classic and still look so boring to me. I'm sure one day they will be admired for what they are, in shows etc but right now they are in the r32, r33 and r34 plus the 90's evo class. So what could be left that could meet my needs and have a small cult following.....An 01 WRX, cheap because of there ugly face, yes this is me BC fully adjustable coil overs.......... tickPower............... tickLight weight............ Almost a tick at 1390Cheap.......... tickNo WRX blue........ Big tickI picked it up on the day I looked at it, purchased off a mechanic who happily put the car on the hoist for me and pulled off all the inspection covers. I thought where else can someone do this before buying a car... Mechanical the car is sound with full service history and the only mods been done in the last 3 months were brand new BC coil overs and cat back exhaust, costing 3K. So this was pretty much what I had been looking for, a WRX that hasn't been thrashed. After a few words with my wife, we decided yes. The mechanic RWC the car while we went and had lunch in the city. Picked it up and drove home. Couldn't believe I was driving home in this car.The paint on the other hand was... well like sandpaper..... it was contaminated with tree sap and dirt and all sorts of shit. After four times washing the car, and then clay block with a good wax after, the paint looks and feels like new. People have actually commented on it how good it looks. Anyway here she is....13 of April I will try and get a run in at Sandown, but I'm hoping something before then with the Alfa club at P.I. All in all I'm happy and so is my wife (less cars) Logged BJSRacer Global Moderator Jr. Member Posts: 166 Karma: 14 Re: My new Daily/Track car « Reply #1 on: February 18, 2014, 06:53:45 AM » Awesome Glen.
