Post by: Wally on October 18, 2022, 10:33:58 PM
After a round of busy racing, Scott just wins the round one point ahead of Bacchulum. The round win sees Scott take the championship lead from Brad, who is only 3 points behind Scott, and Bacchulum moves up into 3rd place.

And in the meantime please test the changes made to the Kart.  Delete old version first.  Changed the Kart used for testing to prevent confusion, bolted horse doors not withstanding.

CHANGELOG:

Found real life data for the Tyre springrates, about three times stiffer than before.  :o
Returned all the grip, based on G-force telemetry and comparisons to KartKraft
Nixed the problematic Tyre load curves and gone back to the Kunos algorithm.
CoG changes.
Drive line inertia changes, a bit softer on the power now, but still locks up when you run out of fuel, which I am yet to solve.  :-[

@Mael

Please give this a try. I think rather than spinning all the time, you'll be back to complaining about the understeer!

@Others

Perhaps also take it for a spin on last weeks track for a direct comparison.

@Bacchulum

Here's my POV, centre screen only. About 58 degrees Hfov and 9 degrees of downward tilt for the camera. You can see that my horizon is quite high on my screen. Camera is also a little lower and further back than the real head, I usually adjust until my steering wheel boss matches the in game one, I don't usually have the ingame wheel visible.

Head tilt does nothing for me (I think it's overrulled by Real Head Motion).
I think my issue is my monitors are directly above my feet, so I need a strange FoV for the world to look lifelike.
This also means I can never see the actual car mirrors ( I NEED the virtual mirror).
I have set the camera lower and rearwards than the head, but to see the wheel I'm in the seat! :o :o :o

All this could be solved with VR.....

Yes it is. I alt tab to RHM, click 'look options' then change it there. I use from between -1 to -12 depending on how old the seat I'm using is, as they tend to sink under my weight even then they barely last more than a year.
The OG version of RHM would save this setting on a per car basis, but Wally's optimised version uses a different .ini file so can't do this.

I'll give it a crack, but I still think my strange FoV will prevent me seeing the kart.

Liked it. Bit strange with the front wheels invisible due to the seat being to far forward but I assume that's one of the funny things about karts! Still bit off the pace but I think that is a lack of talent. Did around 30 laps so enjoyed it.

Cool, the ever changing state of my mods can go down the wrong path sometimes, but this iteration I have been comparing to KartKraft and Kart Racing Pro and I think compare quite well to those sims. Same but different.
Kart Racing Pro has a free demo version if you'd like to give it a spin, single screen only but with VR.

Just took it for a run and for me its a big improvement, much more stable, rear wheels not wanting to overtake the front!!
I took time off my Valencia laps straight away!

I've put this new kart up on the SUGO West practice server (a twisty little track, no straights here), without a checksum for now. I do like the new kart.

@Seanus in the long run, are you going to rename this kart back to legion_shifter_kart? It just makes the season that's already underway a bit easier to manage without changing car names mid stream.

I think if we get a couple of more good reviews, it should be done.
I won't get a chance to test it until after 1130 tomorrow (I'll be working).

The two Karts are almost identical except for graphics, but I used the other one to prevent confusion.
Come the end of your holidays the updated 'legion_shifter_kart' will be complete and can be used with just a data.acd download for everyone.
In the meantime you can leave the Tony Kart Vortex ROK Shifter (acfl_kart) on the server as it is much the same and will free up one of Thursday's servers.

If it's more realistic, I guess we keep it. :-\
I, personally, don't like the update unless there's something added to give some more front end grip. ???
I keep smashing into the wall between the pits and the main straight.
You should be able to make it loose in a long, flatout, sweeper.

I’m just wondering which mod we are racing tomorrow night?
Are we keeping with the existing specs or moving to the update seanus posted earlier in this thread?
Cheers,
Bradc.

Hi Brad, we're running Seanus's latest version, which you will need to re-download here (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IrlftiB8jLmBDp6gSXWCKXpoSa7qOke0/view?usp=share_link) (same link as before). I've updated the practice server with this version.

Thanks Wally, I will need to do the correct update before racing tonight. I did have a bit of a run with the new physics and it’s not my cup of tea (always one I know!). I couldn’t get access to the server so I tried on the previous weeks track and found that rawness and knifes edge is gone and driving it felt rather easy.  I feel like with this update that I now make one turn in and then nail the throttle where as before I was having to make many adjustments and finely balance everything until well down the straight. It will be interesting to see how everyone else finds them. At best it should make closer racing a lot easier as these feel a lot safer.

Results are up - well done to Scott who narrowly won the round from Bacchulum.

PS. Yes, Joe did drop a lap in race 1. I've adjusted the points accordingly, even though the race 1 report will show the incorrect position.

Well I got this wrong! Tonight the racing felt more like bumper karts on a console. It didn't really matter because I never had the speed as I'm struggling with the new physics introduced for this round, so it's been a rather frustrating night for me. Maybe with some more practice I might be able to work out a set up which works because nothing of which I've come accustomed to with this mod works the same way anymore, which kind of sucks.

Great racing tonight gents, was a marathon effort. Some cracking racing enjoyed at all parts of the track, the go karts feel very realistic, Seanus thank you for an awesome rig. You had some good lap times tonight Brad, luck must not have been on your side to put them in consistently.  Surprised to see that Bachhulum didn’t get the overall win, definitely the consistently quickest out there (cheers for the setup too mate!!!!)

I struggled to enjoy the night early on. Wasn't really a fan of the car changes and I'd done no practise with the new version. I did manage to find a bit of pace by the last race and had some good close racing. Didn't help that race 2 and 3 even starting near the front I bogged down and was quickly to the back of the field. Will have to practise some starts as with the previous car I was just full throttle and drop the clutch.

Actually, after adjusting points for Joe's skipped lap, Scott and Bacchulum tied for the round win, 48 points each. I wrote the post before I remembered to fix Joe's lap.

Fun but tough night of racing.  Had some good battles, took some hits, and made a few of my own mistakes.  Still need to find some more pace though!
As for the carts update . . . much better!  If you drive real carts these are now much more realistic, the way the old ones stepped out so harshly in the rear was not.

I seemed to find a bit of pace by not sliding much, trying to maintain as much throttle as possible without sliding. I tried slow entry, to get the power down from the apex.

x2!

It took a while for me to starting doing something similar, but these cars now need a totally different approach. There seemed to be a lot of understeer but that could also be me entering the corner way too fast!

So I decided I need a new wheel. The current one feels a bit like what my Lada used to be like around the centre-point, Well that's my excuse for being slow  ;D

But there's nothing available, all the wheels seems to be on pre-order or very expensive!  :(

So any suggestions for places to look?

Any particular wheel you are looking for Mael? Belt drive or DD? What’s the budget?

I think Bacchulum has a Fanatec CSL DD on order... or he might be in the same boat as you, waiting for stock to be available.

This is what I was doing initially. You kind of needed to do that before, but now sliding around like that costs time.

Fanatec announced today that the Podium Racing Wheel F1 is on sale for $1999.95 (down from $2799.90) due to delays in the CSL DD base.
I'ms still trying to scrounge up some coin. 8)

My setup from last night is attached.
I lowered the front tyre pressures and raised the rears to regain some of the oversteer, twitchyness of the prior version.

Man that is a good price for the Podium F1, wheel and dd1 base for $2k.

If the budget couldn’t stretch that far I’d seriously consider a moza r9, but I would be trying to make that budget stretch for that podium f1 deal, I’ve never seen it that cheap.

I’m good at spending other people’s money though….I’ll stick with my thrustmaster ts300r until it breaks.

You should take a look at  https://hrsims.com/ (https://hrsims.com/) then. Brett has some pretty nice gear and it’s all Australian engineered and made!
