Title: Fun race Sep 2: Lotus Type 49 @ Castle Hill
Post by: Wally on August 24, 2014, 11:22:57 AM
For a bit of a break between seasons, and to test this scratch built fantasy track (by MadCowie, for those of you that know his tracks) for inclusion in season 3, here's a fun run of 3 x 14 lap sprints.

Car: Lotus Type 49
Track: Castle Hill Long [ DOWNLOAD  (http://www.madcowieproductions.com/castle-hill)]

I've done a few laps around here and haven't found 1 issue, but that's just solo lapping.
Should be fun. 8)

Yeah, I did a few laps. Its a nice flowing track. I just want to see how it behaves online.

I put the FUN server up with this combo.

Did race this track online a while back without any issues. Didnt have a large grid but thats what seems to catch out those with lower performance setups on some tracks. I had no issues at Mid Ohio but dicks state of the art (only In WA, considered ancient in the other states and territories) computer struggled there quite badly.

I guess your testing this track for league possibility, but id like to suggest using Spa instead as we will likely get that this weekend.  ;)

Yeah, I'm expecting Spa. The only problem is it's a looong lap in the Lotuses. But still, I'm sure everyone will be keen to see it.

The GP2 mod would be nice around Spa? Maybe a fun run in that combo to "blood" Spa....

Perfect combo for a race at spa has to be the Robbins, I wonder if you could go flat through Eau Rogue in one of those bad boys.

GP2's would be interesting though last time I tried it the physics seemed a bit flakey and there are no lod's on the models so a large field will kill some people's computers if not everyones. Could do a street car test or gt's including possibly the ferrari 458 gt2 which is another possiblity this week. Or the old lotus if people want to drive it even though its not a favourite car of mine would be a real challenge at spa for sure.

I've managed to get into the 1:03s but am struggling to get lower. I see Wally in the 1:02s and Bacchulum in the low 1:03s. I am losing time getting onto the power out of the corners and the track feels pretty slippery. Do I play with the Power and Coast settings to help with the power out of corners?

Thanks. Feels the same. I usually can tell the difference between the different setups but not with this car/track combo. Something wrong with the way I driving. I think my "understeery" driving style has caught up with me! The frontend just pushes wide and when I get on the throttle The back steps out. I am spending most of the lap "coasting" waiting to be able to get back on the throttle.
Title: Re: Fun race Sep 2: Lotus Type 49 @ Castle Hill
Post by: Bird on August 30, 2014, 06:48:23 PM
It sounds like you need to treat the throttle with a bit more care.  Push it very gently, then you can catch the moment it tries to let go.
But it maybe a pedal issue.
Title: Re: Fun race Sep 2: Lotus Type 49 @ Castle Hill
Post by: Gratulin on August 30, 2014, 10:04:53 PM
Yes. It is driver issue not pedal issue! I am still very much learning throttle control. Every now and again I get a sense of the rhythm of squeezing the throttle as you come out of the apex of a corner. Mostly I am just jamming it down and the car can handle it. With this car it is much more sensitive - I am either too little or too much; or too early or too late.

Really starting to enjoy the Lotus 49. they had solid balls back then. No peanut allergy among those guys. Nor would they give a stuff about your facebook status.
They where real men. But they where also terrified of crashing. It wasn't the crash so much, as 99% of the time it resulted in a fire ball. I think it was this era that was the beginning of the introduction of that expensive show stopper. Safety.

I also like Carrsel hill.

Nope, I doubt they did Marty.
But on the other hand, if they where on a pubic server with 15 scrubs they would know completing 7 clean laps is like trying to push a wet mattress up a spiral staircase.

Dunno about the nicer feeling  :P - but I did find that judging the power out of the corners is easier and since a slide is now more controllable (for me anyway - there isn't that big snap back) I am now getting the hang of this combo. I am also braking deeper into the corner to help the front-end turn in. I assume you guys were already doing that? And thanks Bird for the gentle on the throttle advice - that really helps.

I shudder to think what GB, Marty etal will do around here  :-\ ;D

Now, Bacchulum, I'd love to see an update of your time on the Friends Leaderboard  8)

These cars - especially the lotus - will teach great throttle control :)

Wondering if my SIM days are over already. Get instant nausea and what i can only assume is vertigo when even watching AC.
Bit frightened by it all actually lol. Never felt so disorientated. Fine watching 3rd person. But in the cockpit, sends my head spinning.
Sit in front of computer screens all day, have done so for years, never had a problem. But today I'm getting dizzy even writing this.

Bad news Dick. Hope it is just a temporary thing. Maybe the latest update changed the graphics refresh? Or perhaps those skins you have produced are too psychedelic? A friend of mine became allergic to red wine a while ago. Not sure which would be worse - allergy to red wine or allergy to sim racing  :o ::)

No good to hear Dick, I have had that before turned out to be an ear infection. Was right after a few weeks, and if its more serious ask the doc for anti nausea/sickness tablets over giving up sim racing :P
Title: Re: Fun race Sep 2: Lotus Type 49 @ Castle Hill
Post by: Bird on September 03, 2014, 05:18:55 PM
1) ear infection - inner ear - can cause dizziness.  But it's weird to get it only when sitting in front of a monitor, it's more of a movement-thing as the circular canals get irritated (or eaten away by bacteria!) Still, better get it checked, as it can get very serious.   The reason I've next to no hearing on my right ear...
2) Maybe you're getting older.   You may get used to it if it's just motion sickness, the brain is a funny bugger.  Treat it with smaller doses but regularly, try to seat farther or in a different height, etc.   Don't let it get to the point where it takes hold.  Also; this is easy to help with anti-nausea or sea-sickness tablets.  They are pretty effective.

But maybe see an ear specialist, first...

You guys are awesome.
Thank you all for your concerns and thoughts!
I feel totally fine. No ear drama. that i can tell. Till I play / watch AC.. I should try a different car game... But i'm sure I will get dizzy. I keep thinking it's my eyes+brain sending wrong signals now that I've started concentrating on looking at apexes harder.. cause if i look away from the track it settles a bit. but the moving sensation still starts me spinning.
I've lived at sea for 3 years working on pearl farms (not as romantic as it sounds) and never sea sick,
anyway, i'll just give it a rest for a week or something. I'm seeing the doctor next week.. As I'm still trying to get rid of this rash I got from Marty's server..

EDIT: I'm also blaming my diet. Not enough vegies or something.

People change, mate.  I've been able to play Descent as a young chap w/o ever getting motion sickness...

But here's one more thing to try; set the FoV (field of view) to something else.   I always have trouble with fps games that has the FoV set to low (50-60 degrees horizontal).  Also those where they change the FoV when you do something - like GTA V.
Interestingly, I've no problems in driving games as long as the FoV is constant.

The brain is a weird and sensitive instrument....

There's always the Thursday fun racing, too...head over there and ask Lemmy to put you on the grid.  And don't forget to d/l the content well in time.

Good spruiking Bird :)
Simone I have added you to the grid, if you would like to have a fun run on the Thursday, just get the files here... http://www.xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=444.0
and join in.
Bruce.
