3 races of 7 laps, with ballast being applied.

It's looking like the Formula Target is the car of choice for next season. These races are to get a feel for the cars, play with setups, get used to braking distances behind other cars etc.

The track cutting rules for next season will be those adopted by Formula 1: keep at least one wheel inside the white lines everywhere.

Quote
Drivers must use the track at all times. For the avoidance of doubt the white lines defining the track edges are considered to be part of the track but the kerbs are not.
A driver will be judged to have left the track if no part of the car remains in contact with the track.
Should a car leave the track the driver may rejoin, however, this may only be done when it is safe to do so and without gaining any advantage.
A driver may not deliberately leave the track without justifiable reason.

What car do you want to drive for lucky season 13? The choices are from cars that we've never run, or haven't run for a long time, to mix it up.

Choose one car only. You can change your vote.

For the QLDers, qually will start at 8pm local time.
For the rest of the civilised world, qually will be at the usual time, 9pm.
Does that cause anybody (e.g. those with little kids) any grief?

netKar PRO / League Rules
« on: September 21, 2013, 09:43:08 PM »
Track Cutting
Track cutting is always a difficult issue - there are many opinions and real life tracks allow cutting to different degrees at different parts of the track.

But in this league, the expectation is that these rules will be followed:
  • Keep at least two wheels inside the white lines at all times, with the following exception:
  • Where there are coloured cement run-off areas, either on the inside or outside of corners, you may go outside the white lines, but keep all four wheels on the coloured run-off.
There are also some places where it is generally acceptable to run wide on the outside of a corner. Examples would be: to the right of Variante Alta (chicane at the top of the hill) at Imola, to the left of T1 at Hockenheim, to the right of Variante Ascari (T7) at Monza, etc.

These rules are not enforced – the expectation is that if people abide by this we can all race to the same rules.

Redress
If you cause an accident that disadvantages another driver, you do not need to redress the gained positions. It is often safer to just keep driving and not slow unnaturally on the track.  Any such incident will instead attract a post-race points penalty for the guilty driver as well as points bonus for the impacted driver.

netKar PRO / XGN Server Details
« on: September 21, 2013, 09:09:51 PM »
Game Version
We are using 1.3.0.1534 of the game, which is the second newest version (not the latest version 1.3.0.1727). If you have updated to the latest version of the game, you can revert your game back to the version we use with the version switcher utility which you can download here.

Race Server Details
The race server is called www.xgn.com.au
The race server is usually not password protected since a fixed grid entry list is used. If the race server is passworded, PM any existing league member and ask for the password.

Jump straight to the server
You can launch the game and jump straight to the XGN server by creating a shortcut in Windows which points to this link: nkp://116.212.196.244:9500
For this to work, you have to download jump2nkp here. You run it once, and it enables a link handler for nkp links.

TeamSpeak
TeamSpeak can be download here.
The TeamSpeak server is ts.xgn.com.au.

Running your own rank server (optional)
You can run your own private ranked server if you want to automatically submit your lap times to the nkPRO rank web site.

You will need nKServerTool and replace the exe with this version with bug fixes and nkPro Rank Tool.

Install them both into your root nkPRO folder.
Open port 9500 (TCP & UDP) on your router for the server (not totally sure if this is necessary for a local server).

Then run nKServerTool.

On the "Main config" tab, untick "Register server...." to make it private.
On the "Sessions" tab, set up a practice session.
Then click the "Start Rank Server" button. Once it starts up, it should appear in the online lobby for you to join. Do a few laps and see if your times appear in the rank web site.

If you have any problems, try running the server tool as administrator.

Running your own server with ballast

Use nKServerTool to set up your own local server and set up a practice session as described above.

Go to the Grid tab and bring your driver across into the Grid box.
Type in the ballast you need, click the driver in the grid box, then click Set Ballast.
Then you can Save the config and click the Start Server button.

Now in the game you should see your new server in the server list and be able to join it.

netKar PRO / Welcome to the XGN netKar PRO League
« on: September 21, 2013, 08:59:00 PM »
The XGN netKar PRO racing league is about close racing in a competitive but friendly environment. Close racing in a tight field is favoured over lonely hotlapping in a race. Close racing is achieved by assigning ballast to faster cars. After each race, the faster your best lap is compared to the average driver's fastest lap, the more ballast you carry the next race. Your ballast can vary up and down from race to race. After each race, you get bonus championship points the more ballast you carry.

The league has the usual expectations about maintaining a respectful attitude to other drivers and racing cleanly and fairly. Drivers are helpful and setups and tips are freely shared. It is worth pointing out that in the event of a race incident that puts another car off the track, redress is not required, but will attract a post-race point penalty.

League races are held on Tuesday nights, and a typical season, racing one car, might go for 6 or 7 rounds with a short break between seasons. A typical race night schedule is:
  • Practice 8:30pm (all times AEST)
  • Qualifying: 9:00pm
  • Race 1: 9:10pm
The race night format is typically 2 or 3 sprints. Some races will be in the wet.

The server is called www.xgn.com.au and is usually up 24x7 with the next week's track/car combination. You can read about server details here.

Most league members use TeamSpeak for in-game chat [download]. TeamSpeak server details are here.

You can read the league rules here.

Any questions, just ask!

Penalties
* For an avoidable collision (primarily from the rear) that causes a driver to lose position or leave the track, the punter will receive a 2 point penalty, and each unavoidably disadvantaged driver will receive a 2 point bonus. Redress is optional after an incident.
* A side to side shunt that forces a pass that was not reasonably there, or squeezing someone off the track, will receive a 1 point penalty (and 1 point bonus to the impacted driver).
* A collision that causes the impacted driver to have to return to the pits to resume the race will attract a 6 point penalty (and 6 point bonus to the impacted driver).
