Then the Volvo...yeah, a lot easier to drive and faster as well. The Toyota Supra is very fast too...gotta try the Jaguar (best looking) next...hmm, if the Volvo wasn't so ugly... « Last Edit: August 06, 2020, 12:57:18 PM by killagorilla » Logged davereid Newbie Posts: 30 Karma: 2 Re: S34R1: Queensland Raceway « Reply #4 on: August 10, 2020, 05:36:32 PM » oh man the VL my old dream car - so twitchy but fun to drive! The races will be roughly 20 & 40 mins, but they will always be a set number of laps. Apart from having two left mirrors the car was a lot of fun to drive/slide around the track. Sure there were quicker cars which I could drive but the Jag was a lot of fun, I had thought about using the VK but I could get the tyres to last......In the short race I ran out of tyres around lap 13 so I decided on a mixed strategy for the longer race. I tried running long on the hards then switching to the mediums for the last ten laps but it didn’t make much of a difference. Whilst the results show I finished 9th, the reality was I only managed to pass people when they ran out of fuel on the last lap, so I guess it’s rather hallow... My starts weren't too bad. There was plenty of close racing...well, and I managed to keep the car on the track. Early in race 2 my crew chief told me I can do 17 laps. The problem was that I was under the assumption that I had fuel for 2 or 3 more laps on board for the first stint. So I started short shifting...more and more during the race...crossed the line with 0.5 litres left...phew...more luck than brains. Luckily enough I didn't lose too many positions. Wally made a daring pass, but resisting wouldn't have made too much sense...the 3 of us made it through this tight turn alright. Another Nissan passed me, but that was it...Phil came close towards the very end of the race. There was a bit of a situation and a possible contact with a Nissan before the left hand turn at the inside. He was trying to pass on the outside, but then went off. I was aware of that and thought I left enough space there, but maybe I misjudged this situation. Sorry if it really was my fault (haven't watched the replay).
