Qualifying: similar to Bueller, I could not get a hang of the hairpins. I would find a huge green area in my deltas when I varied my line choice, but doing this consistently and putting it together in a lap was hard going.
R1: had a good start and managed to hold position. Killa and I swapped positions as he made an error, but unfortunately I also made an error which he swiftly capitalised on. 30 qualifying laps later, we were separated by less than a second and I had to turn the AC up a notch afterwards. Great racing!
R2: terrible start with the long 1st gear with a bog, so I shoot back to 5th behind AB, Bueller and Mael, with a bit of a squeeze around the hairpin but luckily made it through without issue. After a few laps I was able to make it past Bueller and Mael, and Bueller kept me honest for a while. I then tried to hunt Killa down and managed to hit a couple of 55s, but it was too little too late and I had to settle for 2nd.

Congrats buddy, you were untouchable! Well deserved victories and nice race for the championship.

I'm just happy the gearbox made it through

I enjoyed Helsinki more than I was expecting. I tend not to have the best luck at street circuits, especially ones as bumpy as this one, but the lower damage did allow me to channel my inner pinball as I was being tossed around the walls on R1. It got to the point where I had a cracked windshield for half the race and needed a GPS to help me locate the apex! All the while I could see Killa making up ground which gave me motivation to get on with the job. There wasn't much in it at the end.

R2 I just somehow found a rhythm that I wasn't expecting to. Something just clicked and I managed to nail my braking points, which was a stark change to Estoril where Bueller and Kills were beating me up big time. That gave me the confidence to make a move on Killa on the outside after I had a good run on him on that tricky left hander. After that it was relatively smooth sailing and I set a mid 28 which I was happy with, and it was relatively kind on tyres which helped.

Now there's a 3 way duel for the lead. Exciting stuff, it's been really nice racing with you all!

R2 was the closest racing I've had for some time. Thanks Bueller!

Open server is hit and miss. I only found out about you guys because you had an open server one night for the Thursday flattop, so that was a stroke of luck for me because it was a lot of fun! AB156 did show me a clean pair of heels though haha.

Tyre wear is definitely a factor on the softs around here. I think it will be another medium compound race for me

You guys in the Alfas had incredible race pace, especially once the tyres started to wear. I was working really hard to catch Bueller in R2 but the man was on a mission. Nearly dipped into the 51s on race fuel and mediums which I was quietly chuffed with.

Round 1 was a comedy of errors by me resulting in a blown box on the last lap, but I somehow coasted through to the finish line. I had a really good battle with AB156 in the Merc

3 cars within 0.03s...good calcs, Wally.

You are uncomfortably close after only a single lap! I better get practicing 🙂

Should be a good series of races, and I'm pleased that 3 cars that drive very differently and will therefore have different strengths/weaknesses at sections on the track have such close times. Looking forward to racing with you guys

I usually flat shift on the way up the box (and hope not to miss gears), and then heel + toe on the way down. Before you guys mentioned it, I didn't even know the cars allowed you to do clutchless downshifts  ::)

I gave the 1988 version of Hockenheim a go just now, and it's also really good fun! Such an amazing array of mods available for AC

I gave the Merc a few laps to see what times I could pull. Looks to be roughly the same as the BMW, and a more balanced car overall. I prefer the BMW though, as it feels so good when you get a section nailed

As for making the softs last.. well, that I'm not sure about as I haven't done 16 laps in a row yet. Depends if the grip stabilises, or drops off a cliff. I usually drive these cars on mediums because of how rough they tend to be on tyres.

This track eats tyres! Quite enjoyable to learn though

Managed to get a 39.3 in the E30 with gearing and tyre pressure changes. If I nail my sectors and negotiate T1 properly I should be into the 38s with a bit of luck!
