Controversial!! :-X

Thanks. Marty's in.

woah... lots of ballast!

woah... lots of ballast!
Yep, gotta slow the fastest guys down by 4 or 5 seconds. The bigger the spread of lap times, the higher the ballast.

Good to see GB and me are Ballast free, but that's kind of where the system breaks down a little if people do miss some races and come in with no ballast vs 100+kg against guys that I can normally run a similar pace to and GB generally beats everyone. I wonder if maybe first race starters should get at least 50% max ballast or something. Even the first race of the season it may be worth all starting on say 100kg ballast then people get adjusted + or - as needed, probably not for this season but it may be worth considering for future seasons if running ballast.

I think Marty and GB should start off every season with at least 50% max ballast period :P

jeremy 191kg hahahahahaha the springs on that thing are going to snap :P im not too sure on this ballast system

The first round is always a bit ”wild” ballast wise, but it settles down quickly. We used this same system in netKar for years to good effect.
Yes Marty, see Rolz's ballast thread.

This will be interesting... I just hope I don't get lapped

Race 1 might be a bit of a challenge, but you'll no doubt drop ballast for race 2.
At Imola, you set the 2nd fastest lap time out of 18 racers with 66kg!
And in other news... looking at past FR3.5 times and other stats, I've given Marty 100 kg and Guybrush 130 kg.
Also, Marty has stepped into team Double G Racing, partnering G0RGAK, in place of Gratulin.

I think Marty should have less ballast!!!!

That sounds like a biased opinion to me!

Weren't Marty and I in team Achilles Heels?

Weren't Marty and I in team Achilles Heels?
You were... and then Marty was away. I can reunite you if you like (and if Will doesn't mind - I'm sure he doesn't).
OK, Steve Xland has pulled out due to timezeone differences, so I've dissolved Fortec Racing (leaving christopheraser as a privateer on his own) and moved Will from Achilles Heels to team Double G Racing (partnering G0RGAK).
-
I checked the speeding penalties in the PLP app, and they're working as designed. It's just really easy to speed into pit lane. The pit limiter comes on pretty early at Silverstone, so make sure you practice/check. It will pay to be conservative.
Also, if anyone's not running the PLP app on Tuesday, they'll get an automatic 10 second post-race penalty.

Fine by me. Hi G0rgak.

I'm not trying to change the results or says that the PLP app isn't working but I just went and checked the replayed and compared it to me just driving in to the pits again and it could quite possible be lag but my speed was below 90Km/h before my test shows the PLP app showing a red square.
this image is the test I did and the shot is the first frame while the red square is lit up (it might be a bit messed up because 30 FPS recording vs 60 FPS game but who knows.
this image is taken from the replay of the race and the first frame of my speed below 90 and the car is clearly behind where the light turns on in the previous image. difference could also have something to do with car placement.
this is probably due to server lag but who knows, just thought it was interesting because I was sure that in the race I was doing less that 90 when I hit the zone but there is no way to tell because the PLP red/green box doesn't appear in replays.
all in all I must have only just got detected for speeding because it is pretty close in those images.
-
What am I looking at here? In the first image, you are doing 109, and the red square is showing as expected. In the second image, have you reached the pit line yet? If you haven't, no square will show.
-
oh sorry if it is a bit hard to understand what is going on in the second image is I am doing less than 90 before where I'm believed the pit line is but I still got a penalty from what I remember, but now I am starting to second guessing my self if I actually got a penalty or not and I cant tell from the replay because the PLP app doesn't work in replays. Maybe I just miss read something that popped up in the chat just after I entered the pits.
If you can, can you please check the log to see if I got a penalty because I thought I did, but I don't know anymore.
Edit: was suppose to post this in post race but oh well, I also might just be stupid.
-
isnt the speed limit 80km/h?
-
isnt the speed limit 80km/h?
it is but I thought you only got a penalty for doing over 90

That's right.
-
woohoo - did a few laps with new video card tonight and all was sweet ;D
Pit Lane line is way early... safe to just smash brakes as u exit track.
Tried ballast at 100kg and full tank 3x fuel... best I could do was 1:50 - potential 1:49
Will be a tough race but really looking forward to it!! ;D
-
I have no idea where the pit line is and each attempt I ended up with auto lockup, speeding and hitting the wall or very close too lol. Its kind of hard if there is no clear line to show you were the line is. Its the same for all so no big deal but really would be good if there was a manual limiter and clearly defined pit limit line.
I tried with and without ballast and seems the 100kg is worth around 3 seconds here, though grip level may have been a bit different on both runs so not an exact number.
-
The pit speed penalty adds some stress and excitement to pitting, but it's not ideal, with no clear line. It takes some practice. I will ask people's opinions whether to keep it or not at the end of the season, when we've all used it for several rounds.
-
In practice, I slowly enter the pits until the square appears, then drop a burn out and there's my pit line. ;)
-
In these cars its a good idea to slow yourself before the pit auto slow down anyway. As coming in hot the car locks wheels and you loose control. So its actually going to help if you get slowed before the line, the main issue is that there is no line and Kunos should really add this to all their tracks.
They could surely at least put a couple of cones down as that is quite an issue in any car that doesnt have abs. I quite like the idea of the speed limit penalty though and in practice will need to try find the line.
-
I haven't done any PRAC yet for this season, but it shouldn't be any different to finding a brake marker for a corner should it?
-

That's right. You find a fence or something like that where the pit lane speed limit starts. Or you do a burnout like Bacchulum.
-
The line is just before the kink left... just did a race on the practice XGN server and tested pitting almost every lap :P
So you exit into pit lane, go under bridge thing and then just before it straightens left slow down before then and ur fine...
Could push it a bit further but why risk the 10secs ::)

Racing is all about finding the edge!

I am getting a checksum error when trying to join the practice server...
Also, my throttle is in a bad way. Took it apart and cleaned it but it's still no good :( This is what it's doing from a telemetry perspective - you can see the gas graph second from the bottom where on the straights it should be one flat line but it's got all these blips in it:
http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/575691590870924338/31D4D9595734BB2367D0EEB8C2218FB566A1613B/
I've tried looking in the Logitech profiler and in game but I can't seem to find a "deadzone" option.

Assuming you are using a G25/27, try swapping the potentiometer from the clutch into the throttle as it will be in far better condition.
I've had similar issues previously. In the end I bought a new G27 after the cleaning/swapping failed to resolve it.

Or as a desperate measure, you can really lower your max range of your throttle pedal in AC, below the dips in the throttle trace, so you still hit 100%, but you will lose some pedal sensitivity.
-
Is it a dirty pot? :D
Does it spike when you look at a live graph of it?
If so then you could try inhaling Contact Cleaner until you pass out... :P (I know I have... :o)
-
GB - I had same issue, drowned my pot in circuit board cleaner (spray can) whilst pushing pedal back and forth... worked well for me. ;D
-
I'm going to disregard pit lane speed penalties as AC 1.3 broke apps' ability to tell when a car is in pit lane, until if and when we get an AC fix.

The PLP app seems to be picking up speeding in pit lane?

Yeah, I should, for fairness.
I've also checked the ballast allocation and I hadn't used the adjust kg/sec after the stats from round 1, which reduced the ballast amount a little. The new ballast is:
Bacchulum | 0 |
Bafs17 | 0 |
Chap111 | 0 |
christopheraser | 0 |
EdWood | 92 |
Freezer | 0 |
G0RGAK | 0 |

For the curious, the current ballast amount is 53 kg slows your lap time down by 1% (i.e. 1 second over a 1:40 lap). Measured and averaged over multiple racers, not guessed.
-
What hell is the deal with this car bogging down at the start!? Last week I didn't have the issue at all, then on the practice server last night it was happening again. Wonder if it's a bug based on car #
-
Joe off the line you need to make sure you get some wheel spin, not enough wheelspin and it bogs down very badly. I did do a couple of poor srarts in it too but noticed you got away very slow in a couple starts.
Irs always needing to find the balance between too much wheelspin and not enough. Get it wrong either way and you wont get away very well, but in this I think there is less issue with too much wheelspin compared to none which gets away way slower.
-
Not always Marty, some days for example, I can put it into 1st from a standstill, push down the accelerator and it pulls away easily like any other car. Other times it take a few seconds to get moving.
-
If I don't rev it then dump the clutch, it barely goes anywhere.
This is normal behaviour from my end (it's always been like that).
It seems the pulling away easily is the bug. ???

I have reset the practice server with the current ballast levels, also made it open to 24 cars and as a test have set the entry list in order of ballast from lightest to heaviest. This should meant that any non listed people should get the next available car and most likely this will be with no ballast. As it was general public would join in and may get stuck with the 100kg + ballast and this will make them leave or struggle quite badly.

Server's up. It's cold at Silverstone... 13/14 degrees.

It's looking a lot like I'm not going to get to race tonight :(. Internet's been out for over 2 hours and doesn't look like it's going to come back any time soon.

Bad luck, mate. Don't you just hate that.... I had one week where my internet went out at the start of the race night, and came back at the end. Perfectly bad timing. Still... that's better than bombing out half way through a race.
