Title: Season 8 Car Poll
Post by: Wally on July 08, 2015, 08:43:04 PM
Four options (or classes) to choose from. You can choose up to two of your preferred options.

1. Pagani Zonda R
Fast, race-spec car, lots of setup options, soft, medium, hard tyres.
Single make series.

2. Lotus Evora GTC and Lotus Evora GX
Mid-range race cars, pretty much the same in performance.
Drive each car for half the  season.

3. Lotus 2 Eleven and Lotus 2 Eleven GT4
Handicap option: The top half of the starters get the slower Lotus 2 Eleven, the bottom half of the starters get the faster GT4. This is pretty much like ballast in a single make. There's roughly 2 seconds difference in lap time over a 1:40 lap. There's usually much more than a 2 second gap between fastest and slowest in our races.

4. Abarth EsseEsse Step 1
Slow road car with enough power to slide.
Single make series.

We can have some trial races in any of the options to see how they pan out, and people can change their votes. AC 1.2 may well surface this month too, so the timing on that might have a bearing on how many trial races we have before the season starts.

I've changed the Lotus Evora option to drive both cars, for half the season each. This is to balance out the different tyre, handling and assist characteritics between the two cars.

From the AC news thread: thoughts about the Evora tyres...

I think races would end up soft GXs vs medium GTCs, and the times are still comparable. I can go as fast in the medium GTC as I can in the soft GX. I'd tweak fuel usage so that the GTC could maybe get away with a soft stint, if you want to take the risk of faster lap times with then slower lap times in the tail end of the stint. That's also part of the reason why I changed the Evora option to drive both cars for half the season each, to balance out any advantages and disadvantages. The goal being, like the Ferrari/McLaren season, to see who can get the most out of the two cars. I think that option would lead to see some interesting tyre strategy options.

I though there was a mention in the AC news of forcing certain amount of laps on softs which is an interesting concept but not when the cars have very different tyre compounds. Over a longer race both can run mediums but its actually interesting over a distance where the GX may fall off the trye cliff with a couple laps to go if people were to choose the softs.

I'd only do the forced soft laps in a single make series, like the V8 Supercars. All it would take is for Kunos to output the tyre compound on each lap for each car, and I could calculate how many  laps each person did on softs.

Three way tie... I can see three trial/fun runs coming up. After that, people can change their votes if they want.

I wonder Wally if you could make a compulsory number of pit stops and whether there is a way to track that?

It would be great to do a race where you have to make 2 compulsory pit stops AND you have to use at least 2 different tyre options.

Also, is it worth considering running some of the high performance cars and allowing driver aides for those that feel intimidated?

Driver aids have always been allowed at factory level and also if running stracker/ptracker it monitors pit time and when stops were made.

Tyre options we will need to see how kunos does force that and how it records server data in the next build. Forcing 2 stops would be good in a longer race but a bit mickey mouse in a shorter one.

Yeah i think opening up the pit strategy would be good for race 2, take away the fuel multiplier and leave the the tyre multiplier. The only downer could be pitting really early in the reverse grid and jumping everyone in clear air but then you do run the risk of killing your tyres or you could have a cps window to help with that.

The fuel multiplier is how I've been forcing pit stops - 1 or 2. The fuel multiplier is a fine way of doing that. By setting the appropriate multiplier, you can give people flexibility about when they pit - early or late.

We'll have to wait and see what kind of tyre control 1.2 may or may not bring.

I think people want a change from the fast cars we've been driving this season.

Ok fair enough, can we use 100% damage then?,this is the best strategy ever...100% damage ;D

The zonda is a fun car to drive only reason I went for the slow ass abarth 500 is for something different. The Zonda is very similar to the cars we just raced.

Regarding 100% damage I dont see why we dont use b it. At the lower level I still managed to get bent suspension in a few races this season. I run 100% damage on all my other servers too and it doesnt make so much difference.

The scary thing for me at 100% is more the gearbox damage with an H shifter. I might do some more damage testing. Shattered windscreens on rear impacts are pretty annoying too. It was more those two aspects which lead me to reduce the damage.

Yea its ok wally, but for me the 100% damage  should be a natural thing, after all racing is made of ......make a mistake and you  crash  in to the wall.Too many quick downshift and you cook eggs....i mean it should be a natural part of racing which  at the same time makes the online experience more fair for everybody,

The windscreen damage seems to have been fixed in an update as I really havent had that much, gearbox damage is one reason I prefer 100% damage so people cant shift at too high rpm. The main thing you need to avoid damaging the box is to be a little more patient on some shifts and you can pretty much avoid it. I think the 500 has a fairly sensitive gearbox so I will put up a practice server at 100% and people can see how they go. The hardest is if you miss a gear and let it grind for a second or 2 which is what gives me lots of GB damage.

I tried the toy car mod last week and that thing had a gearbox made of plastic, it was lucky to survive 4 laps at Vallelunga club.

I dunno, I still don't think the damage is realistic enough to warrant 100%.

There are lots of times with some minor rubbing of other cars and slight touches of barriers will crack the windscreen, blow your engine and give you ridiculous amounts of aero damage.  If it was a big shunt, then fine, but when it's natural racing then it's too unrealistic.

I think it's part the damage being the issue but also the collisions in MP and the way AC does them.  Sometimes the touches are OK but sometimes they aren't.  I think where Wally sets the damage at at the moment is fairly realistic as it still effects your performance and acts as a deterrent without anything silly happening.

If real life damage was like AC at 100% we wouldn't see any rubbing or bumps in any of the classes.

Except in BTCC, where it appears to be a mandatory requirement. :o :P

I do agree at times with car to car contact damage can be a bit harsh or mostly the effect a lite bump can have to cars speed. I dont think there is such a thing as a lite rub with a barrier as I dont think any car will get away with brushing a wall at more then 100kmh. You can always film yourself rubbing the freeway barriers at 100kmh and see how well you drive away.  ;)

Wow i was so wrong on my fiat assumption, its a total nugget lol. I thought the s1 tag may turn it into a more responsive btcc-ish style car i could not have envisioned it more wrong lol on the other hand the lotus 2-11 is a blast to drive especially the base version with the h pat!

The abarth can give good side by side racing in a pack, but if you fall behind, it's really hard to catch up. We'll see how the fun race goes.

Maybe before driving the fiat you need to get in the Miata. Went from Miata to Alfa gta last nite and it made the alfa feel like a rocket.  ;D

Was there a final decision and when we start?

When would this season end as well as I'm away Mid-Sept for a few weeks  ;D

No final decision yet. Two more trial races, then a decision based on the poll results. Season will start 3 Tuesdays from now, and probably go for 6 weeks. Probably end Sep 15.

Any idea where the next race is going to be, maybe I am blind but I didnt see it. I have put up a prac server with both 2 elevens at Silverstone international atm but will change if it should be elsewhere. I have also had a KTM and 2 eleven server for a while which will rotate tracks a few times a week. I noticed the kerbs of death really being nasty with the regular 2 eleven at Mugello so if the patch comes maybe testing it on this track will be good.

Maybe Vallelunga again, just the long version. Makes it easier to compare the nature of the racing between the Abarth and these cars.

Good idea Wally, if I had my way all test races would be on the ultimate test track. That kind of long one but its not as popular amongst many here.  :'(

Are we going to have one race in each car or have them mixed grid and get guys to choose one for first race then switch for race 2. I think having them both on track will be good to see how they match up against eachother as that is the way the proposed season in them would be.

I want to do one race with everyone in the ”base” 2-11, then in race 2, the slower half get the GT4. I'll write up a proper post tonight.

I hardly ever run cars without TC as I mainly practice/race in the league and it's harder to be competitive. Tonight with TC forced of for everyone in the GTR was so much fun. Took me a little while to get used to it, but once I was it was great, and so much more satisfying getting a good lap. Even being taken out most races by people that couldn't drive it I still had a lot of fun  :D

Season 9!

I haven't figured out how to add ballast in single player mode, or if you can only do it on a server.

Actually the new tyre model has breathed new life into a lot of the cars. The other day, I drove the Lotus roadster (Exige, Evora? Can't remember) around Zandvoort, and it drifted so beautifully.

Now that we have ballast, I changed the 2 Eleven option to be just the 2 Eleven, with ballast. The Lotus GTC/GX combination still stands as it is.

Change your vote if you want to... on Thursday evening, I'll close the poll and take whatever option is in front.

I have changed my vote to the 2 eleven, that thing is a blast and now that kod has died itself its a blast of a car to drive. So much fun at Imola and should be driveable at Silverstone too, it was the main reason I didn't vote for it as the kerbs would have made bird have a fit again.

I changed mine as I saw that ship has sunk, though the cars were fun last nite Ive already done a full season in those. The 2 eleven and abarths are different and abarth is very different to anything we have done, its just not going to happen and Id prefer not to re run the same season yet with so many other cars in AC.

Maybe when the abarth cup car comes we can run that one, in gt cars id rather a full gt3 or gt2 pick your own car season but if we have another gr season in evoras this will likely be even further away.
