Title: Jul 18 Practice Run - Ford Escort at Paul Ricard WTCC
Post by: Wally on July 12, 2017, 08:25:45 PM
We'll have a full-length practice race in preparation for season 18, at Paul Ricard WTCC [DOWNLOAD (http://explore-game.com/product/paul-ricard-v0-9-7/)]

There will be qualifying at 8:30pm (eastern), followed by race 1 (8 laps), and then race 2 (19 laps).
The race 2 start order will be set in order of fastest race 1 lap times.

Just for this practice race, I'll also set a reducing amount of restrictor from 100% down to 0% in order of race 1 finish position, so we'll see how race 2 pans out. Hopefully it will give some good close racing.

Weather:
Race 1 - 30 degrees, clear, wind 18 kmh WNW
Race 2 - 33 degrees, clear, wind 32 kmh WNW

Server's up - it's called XGN TUE RACE.

Don't get confused with the practice server, or you'll be lonely!

I think the restrictor worked really well. You can see in race 2, there's a lot of lap times in the 47's, with lots of pack racing. You can also see in the "Gap to leader" charts for each race how in race 1, we got slowly more spread out, whereas in race 2, cars stayed a lot closer.

I certainly had an almighty battle with SkilletKid and RussG and Rob. I could occasionally poke my nose inside SkilletKid, but he had the legs to get away. I had to wait many laps for a bit of a battle between SkilletKid and RussG in front of me before I could opportunistically slot between them. Once SkilletKid, Russ, Rob and Shayne started battling amongst themselves behind me, it allowed me to build up a bit of a gap. But it took a lot of racing.

The tyres lasted OK in the long race too. They obviously wore a fair bit, but no real drama.

Here's a couple of (lo-res) laps of the fun between myself, SkilletKid, RussG, Rob and Shayne.

I'm so salty at myself for cracking like that. Still alot to learn before I keep that car under a semblance of control.

Good racing by that pack - heaps of fun.

Had the most fun and the most good battles I've had in a Tuesday night here since I joined. Looking forward to the season proper!

I love these cars. Nice to be using the H-shifter and clutch again on a Tuesday season. Sorry for the tap Wally, it's exactly what I did to Mael. I think I take a different line through T1 or something and it caught me out twice. The 90% restrictor made it quite different when I was back in the pack. There was no way I was getting past anyone so all I could do is defend which I did with AJ for quite a number of laps but eventually I stuffed up the final corner and he got me through T1.

My short race 1 provided some racing down the back of the field, but pleased with only a slap together setup, not a lot of laps on what I find a tricky track, it is great to be running such a fun car and with the numbers on the Tuesday, it will be a challenge, but satisfying.

The racing was really good. It only ended for you when you got a tap, so I don't think you cracked.

Hey gents, thanks for the fun evening. Was an experience and I'm looking forward to racing through the season with you.

Sorry about the dropout in race 2. No idea what happened but got a total pc crash. Figured it wasn't worth trying to reboot and join in.

See you all next Tuesday (or perhaps in the practice server beforehand). Feel free to add me on steam (GymnasticHippo86)

What a great night!!
I was really chuffed with 4th in qually. Pulled that one from somewhere unknown :D

Race 1 I had a great battle with Bacchulum after he got past me but I closed up on the last lap and stuck it up the inside at the final turn for 5th  8)

Race 2 While it was a bit depressing getting mobbed down the straights with the restrictor, it made for some really enjoyable racing. Great battles with Wally, SkilletKid, Rob, Shayne and a nice side by side around the fastest turn with ab156. A little bit of "Rubbin Racin" at times, but I believe that it was all above board ....
Happy with a 9th finish except that I was behind Wally :P

Note to Wally: I am listed as team "KNR Racing" where it should be myself and ab156 as team "Team SNRL". Thanks :) We hope that Keith will be able to join again at some time.

Lovin' this car. Can we extend the season  ;D ;D

That's a shame about the crash, but it happens. I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Are the teams just a fun thing on the side or something else a bit more  serious?

It's just a way of combining two drivers' points towards a team's points. As well as the drivers' championship, there's team points standings. Some teams share setups with each other. It's also a good incentive not to crash into your teammate :)
It can also be a bit of fun if your faster teammate ends up behind you - do you take one for the team and let them past?

If you want to team up with someone, just let me know and invent a team name.
