I wasn't holding my breath for PC2, but ISRTV put out this video yesterday on their first impressions:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgi4aadWN6s
Quick summary: The reviewer didn't think much at all of the PC1 physics which seems a view shared with a lot of XGNers, but he says PC2 is totally different and feels very much improved, and that if all the cars are as good as the two he drove then it's going to be a popular sim. Fingers crossed....
-
Sounds really promising. I never played online with PC1 so no idea what multiplayer is like and Historic car list for PC2 is fairly limited :'(
-
yes, the physics being fixed plus the quality they had before, it should be a good package.
The only things that would worry me are, having to upgrade my PC and the cars are the same cars available in AC, and with no one modding the chances of older cars are minimal :(
-
Does look good
-
pre-ordered. I am back in the land of the living for a few weeks, I think lol depends on what happens in Korea. Looking forward to it anyway.
-
Some reviews appearing, glad i have not ordered yet, will wait for more reviews

On a pad it's playable, at least – something which I don't think could really be said of the original on its default settings – though it struggles to communicate what the car's doing, which results in a slightly detached, overly loose feel to the handling. It's a significant improvement, though it's not best-in-class. On a half-decent wheel it's a different story, of course, and with a good set-up the cars do a lot more talking. There's still not quite enough weight there to trouble the likes of Assetto Corsa or iRacing – in my opinion, at least – and so Project Cars 2's rides end up enjoyable but never quite excellent.

-
Also tempted. I don't see any discount in steam my end though.

Strange, just double checked, clicked on the PC2store page and still says 17% 49.79USD, - 11% for deluxe too

Do you own the first one? Maybe giving a discount to people that do. Shows 59.99USD for me

The AC fanboys are scathing in the PC2 thread on the AC forums.

Really?
Hate in a sim forum?
Never seen that before........
:o :P ;D ;D
-
Steam reviews are a mixed bag. Lots of comments about not being able to feel what the car is doing and that the graphics are actually hit and miss.
-
I own so many sims I don't play. I might get in when on special again and if enough play it to race online with once a week or so, but at the moment not sounding worth buying at all, especially at full price as i missed out on the deal.
-
Haven't had a chance to get on yet, hopefully this arvo. I'll try out the similar stuff to what we've been doing in ac, escorts Lola, similar tracks, for a more direct comparison while still fresh. Watched gamermuscle and inside sim racing reviews and thinking I should have waited for $30-40 prices on g2a or kinguin

I got myself a copy to trial it (arrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)
I tried the Porsche GT3 RS at Spa. Did some laps in PC2, then did the same in AC, then back to PC2 for a bit.
Overall from a quick run it's not that bad. I never tried PC1 as a comparison, but it feels okay to me.
Visually Spa looked better on PC2 than it did on AC, but I was only getting ~40fps with all settings on medium whereas in AC I'm pretty much maxed out getting 60+fps. I turned the rain on and I had my FPS dropping into the mid 30s which sucks. I have a GTX 970 which is overclocked.
I set up my triple monitors in the settings, but that didn't automatically set the FOV which AC does. I used an online calculator and set what it told me and it looked about right. There is no good way to set the driver eye position. While you can change it with WASD keys it doesn't save and it did seem to move around. I would line my wheel up with the wheel on screen then as I was driving it would have moved. I guess this could be a setting to change somewhere.
I was also locking up my brakes very easily in PC2 compared to AC. That could just be some settings to change or to fiddle with the load cell sensitivity on my pedals to get it to how I like it.
There was some texture pop-up at spa, specifically some buildings on the left when heading to eau rouge. The tyre screeching sounds also are a bit annoying.
It doesn't feel quite as good as AC, but it doesn't seem bad. I only had about an hour on one track with one car, and I haven't changed many settings, but I think I'll play around with it some more.

I think in one of the reviews they said set world movement to 100? Might stop the driver seat thing you're experiencing
Edit, just looking at the settings now I think that should be 0

Thanks. I think that was the inside sim racing review. I knew he said something about it. I was gonna go back and check. He also said to set brake sensitivity to 50% which seems to be default now but still too sensitive for me.
-
is there a brake gain setting like in ac for load cell brakes ?
good little review Joe :)

There is just a brake sensitivity setting. It says if ypu set it to 50% it will be 1 to 1 whats coming through the pedals but wasny able to brake half as hard as i do in AC without locking

Hmm found a video on youtube of a guy with the same graphics card as me getting 100+ fps.. maybe I need to update my driver.
-
Oh maaaaan, that world movement setting definitely needs to be 100, try a v8sc around Bathurst with it at 0....vomit lol
I think I'm close to maxed graphics settings and 100fps locked with 1080ti @ 3440x1440p. Latest driver released pc2.
Spent most of the last hr or so tuning game and graphics settings in Ford Escort race spec @ nurb sprint. More details later

100? I've set it to 0 based on the description saying the higher the value the more movement. I still noticing a heap of movement going up and down hill which is annoying the shit out of me.
Edit: you're right 100 fixed it. The description is wrong.

100 locks camera to car/chassis like most sims, 0 seems to be the helmet (might try 50 again). So far AC is a better sim (driving/handling) but this game has content and variety (cars, tracks, weather). Haven't driven long enough really to give any solid recommendations, at this stage I'd say go for it if you can afford it. But I'd wait if you prefer to get games cheaper. Haven't tried multi-player yet...

I just spent some more time on PC2. My braking issue was resolved by changing the load cell sensitivity and re-configuring in game. Graphics wise I played with the settings and got it averaging 60fps and still looking pretty good.
While my initial test of the Porsche GT3 RS around Spa seemed pretty comparable to AC that's not as much the case across the board. While Spa and Brands Hatch looked great, visually better than AC due to better textures, Donnington Park in PC2 looks shite and feels bad to drive too. The AC version is a mod track but looks and feels so much nicer.
I gave some more cars a go and the different cars feel different on the road with good FFB which is good. That said they feel too forgiving making it almost feel closer to arcade than sim. I took the Lotus 98T around Bathurst and I could pretty much floor it out of corners and throw it around and if I lost control I could catch it and carry on. I tried driving it like that in AC and couldn't get around T1. While of course I have no idea what this car would be like to really drive I imagine it's a handful just like in AC. In PC2 a few times I went off track into grass of gravel and it didn't seem to upset the car at all and I could easily drive back on track with little effort and continue. In PC2 this car is 5 speed, in AC it's 6 speed and Wikipedia tells me it should be 6.
I tried the Escort RS1600 and it wasn't as nice to drive as the AC version with the engine sound not as good. I also seem to miss every upshift in PC2; it doesn't allow me to shift anywhere near as fast as I do in AC. Also tried the KTM Crossbow and engine sound of that made to stop pretty quickly.
Still a lot more tracks and cars I can try, but it's just not as good as AC. It's not completely terrible, but I can't see me paying full price for it, and even if I bought it on sale I can't see at this stage why I'd load it up over AC.

thankyou Joe and Buell, good hands on review/comparison with our well known AC.
I know I will be avoiding it as I don't want to upgrade anything at the mo

This feature would be nice to have in Assetto Corsa. However, here at XGN the league solves most of those problems without the need for these features. I don't do public servers. If I want to race online it is on an XGN practice server or on league nights. Otherwise for a quick race I use the AI which is pretty good for my level.
http://www.bsimracing.com/project-cars-2-the-all-new-competitive-racing-license-explained/
“Competitive Racing License
New to Project CARS 2, and a game-changer with respect to the quality of the races you will now experience online, is the introduction of the Competitive Racing License, created to ensure online racing offers you the type of racing you desire and deserve.
Broadly speaking, the license tracks three main spheres of a driver’s career: a driver’s reputation for safety, a driver’s skill level —both of which can be used as a filter for online racing—and driver experience.
[...]
The driver reputation and driver skill stats, meanwhile, will have a large-scale impact on your online racing. These two stats, moreover, are both tracked independently, which means the host of a lobby can decide which (or both) of these driver rankings is most important to them. The host, what’s more, also has the option of not running the online reputation component if they so desire.
If the online reputation component is chosen, it will ensure that the drivers who enter online races can be pre-scanned in accordance with ability, safety, both, or neither.”
-
The licensing was a great feature of iRacing, everyone worked hard to keep their reputation clean.
So where do we buy Project Cars 2? Do Project Cars 1 owners get a discount? :)
Not sure if my chief will allow the purchase after the having the humpy painted and trimmed ::)
Does it have the big Mercedes sedans in it? now they interested me in Project 1?
-
I won't be buying it anytime soon. I am "full up" with AC

I must admit, AC provides a wealth of entertainment, I must have been in the "gotta have" mode for a few seconds :o

Yep. Me too. I was in “AC has gotta have that feature” mode.

Greenman gaming have it 18% off:

I'd still like to play around with it a bit more before deciding if I'd actually buy it should it reach a certain sale price.

Pcars 2 Demo is now available. Just tried it out and it is horrible. Couldn't even steer straight down the track. FOV all wrong plus something wrong with steering calibration. I didn't have to change a thing in AC after re-installing from scratch. Just some fine tuning to my preference.
I I don't need to be fighting the configuration of a sim just to make it drivable.
After this week's AC XGN racing on Tuesday and Thursday nights I am totally convinced AC is better sim. The focus by Kunos on "just driving" pays off big time.

I fully agree Gratulin , I reached the same conclusion in about the same time but it cost me $100 :'( :'(. You should not have to frig around for ages to get a racing sim to feel right. AC has now reached the stage where I am now completely happy with it and with the current available MODs what more could you want, within reason. 8) 8)

After plenty of messing around with settings, FOV, triple screen config etc etc I got the game feeling 'okay'. That was it and gave up.
