Season 2 will be an open wheeler season. Vote for a car. I don't think the Lotus 98T will be ready in time, and may be too feral for league racing (maybe later).
We can have some fun runs in any of these cars if people want, and you can then change your vote.
-
I WANT THE 98T!!!!!!!
:P
Seriously, I love the 312T but voted for the Tatuus (is that plural for tATu? ???) 'cause it should be more forgiving.
I think most of us are still coming to grips with AC so it should keep the field more bunched.
(and I just finished a paint job for it ;D)
-
Is there any chance we could have a break for a couple of weeks between season 1 and 2 Wally? The rest of my life is starting to feel neglected!

That's what I'm doing right now. Sorting out sponsors and paint colour.

It's ok Guybrush. you take some time out. I'll look after your points!
-
Bummer.
Guys, I can see the FAbarth pulling forwards; but just think about it: it's too forgiving.
It's not a car to learn new tricks with, it's a car to get sloppy with. You can get away with nearly anything.
I don't recommend it at all.

Not being an open wheeler pundit and I couldn't find any of the following...

I will refrain from voting and wait until AC add these to the stable! 8)

Think of it as a start though, learning to get to grips with this as a training car (as it is in real life) before graduating to the likes of more advanced open wheelers. There's plenty of time to work our way up to that Exos S1 and perhaps by then we will have Spa and some other good modded tracks :)
I see RSR have announced a Formel 3 mod and are working closely with one of the teams. That might be a good next step after the Tatuus.

I normally have a break for a week or two, with a fun run in something completely different, and a familiarisation race in the next season's car.

But that's the point; it's not as good a learning car as the F1600 was in nkp, it has wings and lots of setup options, and - most importantly - it's extremely forgiving. Nothing like the F1600.

I never raced NKP. Was the F1600 a Formula Ford? That would be great in AC... hopefully Kunos have their eye on doing one themselves.
I don't think the Tatuus is any more forgiving than the E30 though if you are driving it at the limit. Personally I think any of the winged open wheelers are harder to drive at the limit because once you step over the line they usually snap and you end up either in the gravel or loosing a bucket of time trying to re-stabilise them. Most of the road cars give you a bit more room to catch a slide, etc. But horses for courses and all that... I do see where you are coming from though as up until you over-step the limit the FA is quite a stable car.
-
Yeah it was a no-frills 1600cc open wheeler, no wings, street tyres. I believe it was based on the formula ford, especially likely since there was an F1800 - the 1800cc version with a bit more options, like better tires - looked like a modern, upscaled version of it.
They both were a real handful if you did not treat them exactly as you should...ask anyone :) And this is why I loved racing them, they always made you toe the line. You always had to be mindful of your driving style.

I concur Bird, I think the best racing/driving I have done was in the 1600s. For me the lack of speed gave me time to ensure I did get things right/better.

It's the car setup that takes all the time. Especially when you're not completely experienced with it like me and for some things it's a bit of trial-and-error.
Besides all that though, someone has to get close enough to Darren to knock him off the track! ;)
-
I really liked the feel of the Tatuus. The 49 is far to hard to get back under control once it's lost traction. For me anyway.
Besides I've done a skin for the Tatuus that I know will make me go faster.

I'd like to see a few road-car seasons. Where we are all in cars that have limited adjustment.
I'd also like to see an open track day where you can show up in any car. Or maybe limited to certain power output.
-
Haha love the "L" plate

That's why I voted for the L49. It requires the least setup work from week to week :)
With the other cars you can blow an hour or 2 each week just testing different downforce levels.
-
Let's hope this is just a fun-voting and Wally makes an executive decision to do the Lotus49 next season!
Hm...maybe I should rig the voting

The only thing I have to remember is what I voted for ;)

What is the appeal of the L49?
I thought it would be too old and not suitable for twisty circuits at all. Or is that what makes it appealing?

Multiple things, but mainly that it's a no frills, honest, simple car (no wings, simple to setup). It's a fun car (once you 'get it'). If you mis-handle it, it bites like a girl :)
It teaches the most important things: throttle control & patience. You can't just floor it, unless you're dead straight. But to get anywhere (even to turn in properly), you need throttle.
When you really find your balance with it, it's a fantastic feeling to turn in on balancing throttle & slightly over the edge of slipping.
Put this car at mid-ohio, and you have a test that sorts out the real men quickly :D

It is simpler, from the B series on they started putting wings on 'em, and they have the nice 'poly-slider' tyres! :)

Ditto! I'm running out of TV series to feed the misso :P

Guys you don't have to participate every series, you can jump onto the reserve list for a few weeks - one series is exactly the brake you're looking for, Isn't it?
It's Wally who may need the break...;)

I hear Wally is a machine. available 24/7 to assist all our racing needs and down-time is not an option?
is there a over-all-year-round point system? Where every season's points adds up to a super tally or something?

Wally should get a red bull deal just so he can keep going 24/7, this will be quite a different season but with so many official cars to choose from I think most seasons will be quite different. Once we get a full gt field then it will be nice to have some mixed car racing, all gt cars are more evenly matched then the grp A vs DTM as are many of the street cars.
The Tatuus is a strange car and really needs max speed carried everywhere to go fast and a bit of setup work as it has not much grunt exiting turns.
-
Re: L49
It puts more emphasis on the driver, requiring a soft touch on the inputs and a smooth, flowing driving style. You also need to plan your corners a bit further in advance with the way you can drift it into the turns. Because of that it's one of the most rewarding cars when you get the hang of it, and one of the most fun to drive.
-
I have voted the lotus 49 as well.
-
I don't need a break ;)
The seasons will be short for a while, 5 weeks, so we can try lots of different cars and ideas. This Sim is going to be around for a long time. It hasn't even been released yet!
Regarding the "super ranking", if you look at the all time stats that I link to in the race results, there is a column there like "Ranking" or something. The smaller the better. What that indicates is, on average, where you finish out of a grid of 100 cars.

I've heard it whispered that "The Wally, codes as he drives and inputs direct to the bus in machine code when sim racing"
-
I have decided to sell my vote on ebay, bidding starts at 99c ebaylink (ftp://ebaylink)

I heard he can whistle the programs onto tape...lately having problems because USB does not understand whistle.

LOL. I whistle speed hax through my mic when no one's listening.

I don't think that's true, I heard Wally whistles in binary code so he can program while racing. What's more he whistles binary at 4.6 Ghz, and if overclocked using liquid cooling he can push up to 5 Ghz. After that he overheats, crashes and sits in the corner wearing his underpants on his head, rocking back and forward sucking his thumb.

Btw, we just had a half a race in AACL in these cars...what can I say; it's a tad boring. There's little happening in these cars, and since there's no bump drafting, overtaking is extremely hard.
We had a train of cars going, and that's it until someone makes a serious mistake, which isn't that often since the car is very forgiving.
I really-really recommend against a season with this car right now (with bump drafting it'd be a different matter, probably)
-
I removed my vote, c'mon Bird, 99c and it's yours.......

Do you mean regular drafting or slip-streaming Bird? Bump drafting is what they use in NASCAR when one car bumps the other car in front from behind to increase it's speed while the trailing car doing the bumping also gets an increase in speed from the slip-stream. They do this multiple times on a straight to draw away from a pack or just because it increases the overall pace around a track.
Will be interesting to see how the Tatuus goes in a race. Hopefully it leads to close racing... maybe we can give it a run Thursday night? The race a few of us had the other night seemed to be nice and close.
-
Whatever car wins the vote, we will have a "getting to know the car" practice race one Tuesday night before the season starts, to learn the car, learn braking distances, fiddle with setups. Seasons are still short, remember, with the goal of trying lots of cars. Whatever car we choose will be fine.
And remember, Bird, not everyone hates wings ;)
-
It's not the wings this time, Wally. The car is nice to drive, but boring to race under the current circumstances, that's all.
And sorry Guybrush I mean slipstream. I don't know nascar at all, so I thought the two were synonymous.
Btw, Wally, can you tell us what exactly is the setup you're running for the race nights? Which instance, which windows and if you don't mind; which server version? Thanks. We had a bit of problems in AACL last night (server crashes). Trying to get to the bottom of it.

I'd like to see Caterhams the in the R500 body style. And V8 supercars..... just sayin'

Thanks...and did you update the AC server to the latest? Or we're on an earlier version?
-
Apparently slipstreaming will be in the July 18th build, and yes it was pretty boring around Silverstone Int in the Fabarth last night.
Low revs, low speeds and a well planted car isn't very exhilarating. Need reverse grids or something :)

Well, seems to be a few opposed to it with reason, Wally, is it possible to do a fun run in these before voting ends. We have all had a taste of the L49 and the 312t. I would hate to get into a series with these that be boring for all with out slipstreaming.

Would be good to have a "fun race" as a trial. Slip-streaming would be implemented before the next season though if it's in the July 18th update.
-
I've already said we'll have a fun run in whatever car wins the vote. If it sucks, we can try the next most popular car. We'll try it with slip streaming if at all possible.

It's 5 weeks, blink and it's over, what better time to try all the cars (even the boring ones).
I say run what wins the poll. :-X
-
OK, season 2 will be in the Taatus Formula Abarth.
-
Cool I think this will be quite a bit closer all round, once a few good setups are posted most will be fairly close in these I think. Still I will need a draft to keep up with our aliens but should be quite fun also race tyre choice will spice things up a bit.
Is this going to start up next week or is there a week off between seasons? Id love to have the final race at Nords but I dont know how keen others would be on this. :)
I think all our arbarth ranks will get a good boost during this season too.
Edit just saw calender of coming events and there is a fun run then a trial run in these so my questions are answered.
-
I'm keen for Nords.
I'm always keen for Nords.
Shit, I'd wake up at 0300 to race Nords. 8) 8)

Even the wtcc is having a round at full 24 hr nords layout next year. No idea how many laps probably only 3 or 4 for them not the 140 or so they get in the 24hr race which is probably a bit too many for a league run.
-
I've done a full 'sim' Bathurst 1000, co-driver and 6 hours long, so with teams of 3-4 (and a sim that allows driver changes) a 24h Nordschleiffe could be done. ;D ;D ;D

That's a hell of a drinking session Mr Bacchulum!
AC is the 1st computer game that actually messes with my eyes after a few hours.
