Title: May 19: Practice race at Paul Ricard Castellet
Post by: Wally on May 13, 2015, 12:15:58 AM
Using the season 7 cars: McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari. Drive both cars; mix it up a bit.

Track: Paul Ricard Castellet 0.8.2 [DOWNLOAD (http://www.explore-3d.com/Assetto_Corsa/Paul_Ricard/Paul_Ricard_v0.8.2.rar)]

3 x 8 lap sprints.

Passworded server.

Don't forget to download version 1.1 of the Pit Lane Penalty app (time penalty instead of drive through) HERE (http://www.xgn.com.au/index.php?topic=758.0).

Ive also put up a practice server for rnd1 at Silverstone to help people make a car choice. Paul Ricard is this the no chicane version as its quite fun in these cars getting some sill high speeds on the back straight.

I have the regular xgn password on the Silverstone Aus XGN practice server but I may just open this up to the masses for a while. If many zgn guys want to have a run on there I can pass it up again but it will give more laptime data on stracker if the masses are allowed in. I also dont have any open servers other then my qualy one.

The admin pass for the server is the regular xgn pass so if anyone is on and someone need a kick (surely not me) use the admin commands and you can get rid of them. The basic command needed is
/admin "password"
/kick Guybrush Threepwood
thats the one I use the most.

Had a go at Silverstone last night. Took me quite a while to get a complete lap, but managed to get my times down after a while. Not like Guy who popped in for 5 laps, beat the WR in the Ferrari and left....

A load of people joined the server and ended up doing a couple of races... races with random people compared to league races suck huh! Qualified 2nd in both races I did but got taken out on the first corner both times.

Also banned one guy. I was behind him and whenever I got close he'd brake and swerve around then when I got past would tap me from behind. I think he did this 6 times in one race, so once it was over so was he.

I can make the server just passworded again if its a bit chaotic with the general public being allowed in. As I dont have a wheel atm I wont be going on there so probably better to password this server again just using the xgn pass.

Ive put the regular pass back onto the silverstone practice server, here are the Stracker stats from this server too.

Edited by Flattop :) Lap Stats. (http://54.66.194.221:50041/lapstat)

If GB got the WR in the Lafa it must mean the P1 is a little quicker as I didnt run that many laps and pretty sure it wasnt a WR but still a little quicker there.  ;)

Tyre wear for these races will be 1.5x. More for my own experimentation, really. In the season, the 30 min races will be 3x tyre wear, so you more than likely will have to change tyres in the pit stop. The 50 min, 2 stop races will be about 1.5x tyre wear, so you should get two stints out of one set of tyres.

I think the P1 is quicker everywhere, possibly with the exception of Monza?  Anyway, only ran a few laps - 7 according to ptracker , but I'm sure there's probably another second in there with some practice and setup work.  Still got another 102 laps to catch up to you Marty.

Just been practicing on this Paul Ricard track. It may have taken me 77 laps but I got a 1:53.4 in the Ferrari putting me 2nd on RSR so I'm taking it  ;D

There is an 0.8.3 version of the track just released, but I'll have 0.8.2 on the server, which is itself relatively new. If you have 0.8.3, rename your track folder to 0.8.2 so you can join the server. I'm hoping that the track's surfaces.ini (used for checksum) hasn't changed. If you have any setups, you'll need to rename your setup folder under the car in My Documents to 0.8.2 as well.

I think I ran about 10 to 15 laps but ptracker counts all laps on a particular server I think. Thats kind of why numbers are so high.  ;D

I enjoyed the Ferrari more than the McLaren. It's a bit livelier, a bit more predictable, a bit more driftable. And of course here, with the massive staright, it had the legs on the McLaren. I didn't really get much of a draft up with either car though, surprisingly.

In race 1, I was leading in the Ferrari with Stan's Ferrari always looming in my mirrors. He was ready to pounce when I slipped a bit on the kerb leading onto the straight, and got the win from me.

Race 2 in the McLaren was a bit of a loopfest, with the rear coming around far too easily. But I had some good racing with Rob, Viper and Joe. Joe's Ferrari kept rubber banding with me, passing me on the straight and then me passing him in the corners, but neither of us could really break away.

Race 3 was again in the McLaren. This time, I put on maximum rear negative camber, dropped the toe a bit (still just positive) and reduced the rear tyre pressure 1 PSI. This made the rear much more stable, and I was now able to drift the McLaren a bit more, including a nice opposite-lock slide through the right hander at the end of the straight (a great corner). I lead that race to the win, with Chris and Stan squabbling in their Ferraris behind me.

By the way, in the race results, you can see the effects of the 10 second penalties given for excessive track cutting. The positions with a red background are where 10 seconds has been added to the driver's race time.

Grats on the pole :)

Are you really congratulating me or making fun of my typo  ;D

Here's a screengrab of me squeezing between Krahl and Grubbert, unfortunately a bit late in the straight, and as it seems the Ferrari needs to brake earlier into the corner they got me again. A couple of laps later I'm pretty sure I had enough speed and time to go through again but decided against it through fear of taking us all out in the corner  ::)

Ahh that would explain the race 3 results! :) I normally keep an eye on my cuts, but in race 3 my eye (I only have one, I wear a pirate's uniform and have a parrot that I've trained to...err umm back on topic) was firmly focused on Chris's bumper bar for just about all the race as we had an excellent race  ;D

Great introduction into the new season's cars, I enjoyed both of them. They seem pretty evenly matched (Ferrari advantage on the straights, McLaren in the corners).

All 3 race were great fun for me, race 1 with Wally (one mistake!!), race 2 with Krahl (he was so fast on the straight with his Ferrari, I didn't seem to have that same edge when I was in a Ferrari... hmmm must get better  :D) and an excellent dual with Chris in race 3. Happy new season of racings!!  ;D

Wally regarding the mclaren being less lively then the lafa I actually found the opposite. To me it seems as if even TC off in the lafa it still has a bit on so the rear is more planted. The P1 is pretty much a drift beast for me but I dont use TC in either as its so much more fun using the throttle to help turn when needed. P1 I also us the DRS to avoid understeer at some corners but I also found at times I ran put of electric power a couple times and that wouldnt be good in a long race.

Huge fun last night, especially with Stan in Race 3. Some really close clean racing. We were side by side for half of the last lap in race 3.

Strange that I wasn't getting any cut warnings last night. I had the plugin installed and turned on for all three races, but each time i checked between events it was off again. I restarted AC between Race 2 and 3, but have since reinstalled the patch anyway, so hopefully that will fix it. Strangely I wasn't getting any cut warnings on screen for race three where it appears the plugin did its job. Am I missing a trick here? Where do the warnings appear?

Once again great fun last night, thanks for letting me be involved.

In the PLP.ini file, where the app is installed, there's a setting like Invisible_Mode=1, or something like that. Try changing that to 0. Then it should be easier to see where the app actually is on your screen. The warnings come up in the app window. In a race session, you should always see "Warnings: 0/3".

Marty, I left TC on in both cars. Maybe that's the difference.

I definitely had my warnings visible but I didn't notice my cuts coming up (as I said I was preoccupied but I normally notice them, will look for it next time)  ;D
