Faster than the F1 cars of the same year (no wonder we all found them a bit of a handfull) . It has got me fired up to do another series in these cars, and we now have good versions of Laguna Seca plus some of other tracks. I think there is some other Grp 7 cars also available now as well. The top F1 drivers really enjoyed driving these cars as well as the F1 cars. Thanks Bacchulum I really enjoyed it .This is what I really love about simracing, being able to relive these motorsport historic milestones « Last Edit: January 19, 2018, 06:37:16 PM by rooshooter » Logged social media is the tobacco of this century Bacchulum RestrictedRacing Hero Member Posts: 3403 Karma: 96 Re: Can-Am « Reply #4 on: January 19, 2018, 08:17:18 PM » Kind of had you in mind when I posted, roo. Group 7 was never meant to be regulations to build a car to. Sports cars were 'grouped' according to engine capacity and weight.Group 7 was just for cars that didn't comply to any other group, hence no weight limits or capacity limits.Sure, they were heavier than F1 cars (530kg - 690kg) but McLaren had 8.3 litres - F1's 3 litres. I love the mindset of the drivers at the time:Quote It was largely Flegl who created the Porsche 917-30, whose 1100 horsepower, the SCCA bitched, was killing the Can-Am series. Donohue disagreed. “We’re far from having too much horsepower,” he asserted. “My definition of too much horsepower is when all four wheels are spinning in every gear.” btwI also have the whole 1971 Watkins Glen race.I'll upload it if anyone wants it but be warned, there's no DRS so overtaking is low. (they've even left in some motorsport related ads of the time ) Logged 2+2=√16 rooshooter RestrictedRacing Hero Member Posts: 2887 Karma: 52 Re: Can-Am « Reply #5 on: January 20, 2018, 07:37:11 AM » I would like to watch it Bacchulum. It really was the pinnacle of Sports Car racing like the turbo era was the pinnacle of F1. They were crazy cars and the drivers and spectators just loved them. We have several variants of the Lola and the M1b/Elva as well as the Chaparral 2E now. (which except for a few outliers is all the cars that ran that season.)And now that I have sorted out the bumps on the 66 version of Laguna we have a full set of almost period correct tracks.
