Gents, if anyone is interested - or knows anyone...
My trusty red 2007 380 SX is up for sale as of now, 84k on the odo.
This is the car, old pic but it gives you an idea. The windows are heavily tinted.

Location is central coast.
I thought I'll put it up here and on the ARSE forums first, as it's a good car, it'd be good to go to some nice new owner.
I'll take some pics and in a couple of days I'll put it up on commercial sites.
Forum members get discount on the price. :)
The only flaw is that the front bumper does not look very nice. It will need a re-spray to restore its glory, altho from 4-5m away it's ok.
Otherwise it has never missed a beat.
Reason...yeah, well, this:

Like the new ride, time to book a track day and really get to know her ;-)

that is on the agenda. Along with some drag runs and mods down the road...superchargers look sexy ☺

Nice :) I know these things inside out if you've got any questions!
-
That's very nice of you, thanks.
If you would have a look at the convo here - we've already started a discussion about it, I'd love to see your input on it!

In a nutshell;
I'm thinking of occasional tracking, small mods first & eventually supercharging it.
-
I gave my 2c. It's awaiting approval. Otherwise ask away.
-
Thanks mate, it's all there :)
I don't yet have the car but I've a plethora of info already that I'm trying to get my head around. :D
-
I guess the biggest thing is a lot of essential mods aren't necessary and get out and have fun with it. A 100% standard car on track is more fun than weapon on the street.
-
I'll definitely start stock - party because the financial department won't approve anything right now, party because I want to see how the car behaves before I do anything :)

Quick question for those that do the odd track day.
Hosw much does it cost all up for a track day? So track fees, tyres, additonal safety features on the car (???), etc.
-
A sprint session with usually 6+ times runs of 4 hot laps with our 86 club is $145. A set of track tyres might last at least 8 to 20 events. $800 for them. Pads and fluid at a minimum maybe $3-500. It really depends how much you want to get into it. Helmet $100-$500 and some gloves.
Harnesses there is debate over any increased safety over a 3pt and airbags and isn't necessary. CAMS license and or a Queensland Raceways license might add $65 to $100 annually.
-
My biggest problem is that there's no track (well no public track) around here on the central coast.
So the closest is Eastern Creek, that's not close. And time is at a premium lately.
And I don't know of any 86 clubs around here either. I had a quick search but nothing came up.
It'd be nice if there was one with access to the local private track! :)
How often do you change the brake fluids? Just once at each 'normal' service? More often?
-
Check out our club: https://www.facebook.com/groups/86driversclub/
We are incorporated and CAMS affiliated. There are few guys in Newcastle that will have more of an idea of where you can track it around there.
Yes it's on Facebook but it's an open group so it keeps out all the riff raff. No one uses any of the aus 86 forums anymore sadly.
I would be changing brake fluid every couple of track days, it's cheap and easy otherwise pay for an expensive fluid and you may get a year or so. I've just started running bigger brakes so may do it less now but we'll see how it holds up. I've done 2 sprints on the new brakes.
-
How often do you need to change the pads? Is brake fade due to high temps an issue? I'd imagine the more expesnive fluid would have a higher boiling point and prevent this?
-
I got 4 days out of a set of track pads. Rears last twice as long. Big brakes should last 5x longer so hoping to get some value there. The std brakes with the right fluid and pads are up to the task of more power but they are working very hard, eat consumables and don't give as nice a feel.
-
thanks mate, I'll have a looksie at that facegroup thing :D

Track days are easy to get into,
You will need to be with a cams affiliated club, https://www.cams.com.au/get-involved/clubs/club-finder Pick a club that isn't to demanding but has the scope for opportunity if you want to get more involved. Phillip Island Auto Racing club is good for me, you can "just be" a member or you could end up heavily involved in V8 super car days as an official.
Secondly your car needs to be in reasonably condition, put some Dot 5 brake fluid in ($20 to $30) and a secondary bonnet restraint and mount an in date vehicle fire extinguisher usually mounted in passenger foot well in arms reach of the driver. Some woollen clothes and a Helmet and finally a level 2 speed licence.
Now I have seen all types of cars hit the track from Porsche Cayenne to full blown race cars doing a shake down. You wont need semi's or big brake upgrades on your first few runs, how serious you want to get will come down to your wallet. I see a lot of old corolla's etc all striped out with back yard engineering way of brake cooling and chassis adjustments that cost nothing but your own time and how creative you can be. We can all be Larry Perkins!!!
There are a few come and try days around, you will get a level 2 speed licence for the day and become a temporary member of the club hosting for one day, it gives you opportunity to dip your toes to see what you think. And don't forget, just being a spectator is a really good way to get a feel of how it all runs. If your in Victoria go along to a Alfa romeo track day or a Wrx track day, both clubs run a pretty tight ship with the Alfa club getting a bigger variety of cars.

Thanks, Glen!

If you'd like to try my car in game you can download it here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/58uhu89xkjyzmz6/luke_86.rar?dl=0
It's a standalone car that works alongside the factory 86 and doesn't replace or edit it.
-
I've downloaded it mate, thanks, will try. So where are the specs? :)
On another note; it seems the 380 is now sold - to my neighbour.
-
Good stuff, it's not far away then
280hp
4.556 final drive (instead of 4.1)
MCA red suspension (well simulated Spring Rates anyway)
AP racing calipers
And some bits to allow matching alignment
-
That's a neat extra 80hp :)
So that's simply with e85 and tune? No FI, right?
-
Equal Length headers, overpipe and exhaust, panel filter and a lot of time on the dyno.
A good standard car will pull 100rwkw on that dyno.
The shorter gears really help give it some pep.
-
Cool! 8)

How is the car in game?

It's very nice!
With your car I might had a chance of beating Guybrush :)
