Title: Cobra Cup Season 6 and Mazda MX-5/Caterham Cup Season 7
Post by: Bruce on July 03, 2015, 02:24:04 PM
Season 6 Cobra Cup
Season 7 Mazda/Caterham Cup

Our Gratulin suggested running a longer series, in parallel to both the real F1 and the V8 series. Given how much we enjoyed the Cobra, it's time to pull it out once again from the corner of the racing car stable.
Having said that, many have agreed already that the Mazda Miata mod is a laudable piece of work and very ‘club car’ like machine.

So to satisfy all of the above we have the upcoming Season 6 & 7 running through many weeks, allowing to run BOTH the Cobra and the Mazda providing variety of cars and with some opportunities to have a break along the way as we head towards the end of the second half of the year.

To me, the programme looks simple to follow… if there are questions, please post them here.
We will have a ‘good’ race server running on the race night.
Stracker live may not be available at all times, race results and Championship progress may be a screen grab, but it will be there and updated weekly, post race.

If you have a favourite skin for the Cobra, it will be used again, any updated need to emailed to flattops.email AT gmail.com.
Mazda skins send to the same email above.

I've never even driven the Cobra. May have to download it tonight and give it a go.

Talking of Corbas, here's me and my friend about to take his Dad's kit car for a spin 10+ years ago :)

Just tried the server.
Checksum failed.
I'm using v0.9.5 of Hungaroring (what the link links to). :(

And are we really going to still use Mosport after Thursday's test?!? :o

@bacchulum should be ok now. Had an old version of the track but thought it was the latest.

EDIT: timing seems not quite right but should be ok to use.

I think the track's grip is set to a maximum of something quite low compared to others, that's why it's so slippery.

If you delete map.png and data\map.ini in the track folder then start AC and launch the track. First time you will get an error. launch the track again and the map will be built.

Good call.
I love the track, layout-wise, but we can't have someone pitted on the bridge and it did put random people a lap down. :(

It might be useful to summarise the Cobra Cup Season showing the alignment of the track selection against the Formula 1 and V8Supercar calendars.

Cobra Cup Season 6

July 23th Hungaroring (Formula 1)
July 30th Spa (Formula 1)
August 20th Eastern Creek (V8Supercars)
September 17th Singapore (Formula 1)
September 24th Suzuka (Formula 1)
October 15th Sochi (Formula 1)
October 22th Surfers Paradise (V8Supercars)
October 29th Pukokohoe (V8Supercars)

The Singapore track is OK but it takes the Cobra almost 3 minutes a lap and rarely gets out of 1st gear. Perhaps we substitute Mexico for that week? AC has Mexico 1988 but we didn't use it this season since it is the same week as Pukokohe V8s.

There are F1 tracks for early next year - Australian GP, Chinese GP, Spanish GP, Monaco GP, Canadian GP, Austrian GP,  British GP. This makes almost a complete season.

I'd be up for Singapore.  We don't get to race street circuits very often, especially not in a Cobra! :)

Did some more practice in the Cobra last night and finally starting to get to grips with it. Think I did a low 2:07 and and not spinning off several times a lap  ;D

I've not driven many cars in this game due to joining the league just after buying it, and most of the ones I have driven have TC or aren't too much of a handful without. This is the first car I've driven that really requires delicate throttle control.

the last part is important for getting the thing around the track fast, heavy throttle control for added, but slower times, fun.
I have reduced the race to 15 laps, but everyone just let me know what you think is a better number.

I am getting a checksum error when trying to join server, could it be skins? as track is only
one version and car is DLC. All these random runtime and checksum errors are getting annoying.

I got a checksum first attempt , but second time was fine,  I am not savvy enough with server to figure out whats causing the checksums.

Intermittent checksums seems totally weird. I assume it just checks certain things like the surfaces.ini for car and track, so it should either work or not work. Are there any custom skins installed for the Cobra? Anything in the AC logs that point to what's causing the checksum?

thanks for the info rooshooter and Joe, I too am getting some checksum on some occasions.
I have stripped out the 'skinned cars' from the list and they are all default cars!
As Joes, says, it should be correct or wrong!  When time permits, I will test a new install of the server, but in the mean time, sorry to say, we will all have to reconnect the second time, (normally successful).
Once in of course all is okay GRRRR

Good news Cal, I will get to watch you disappear into the distance again :)
We had mixed thoughts about cars to run, trying to keep the Cobra Theme running, but also introducing new mods as they became available.
We started with the Mazda MX-5 mod, which was okay in the first release, but disappointing in the next iteration, and along came the Caterham that is FANTASTIC.   So the remaining of the year has 2 seasons, alternating, every Thursday, (expect the odd "bye", as this week is), between the Season 6 Cobras and Season 7 Caterham.
I have added links in responses above ^^^ for the Caterham and the announcement page has the link for the track.
anything else keep asking.

I've put Mid America on my server, take it we're doing the GP layout?

Does seem to be a bug with the web manager when choosing track configurations. Will have a look at fixing it at work tomorrow  ;D

I'm now stuck between a rock and a hard place with the stracker for results...

Sorry Joe et al, I have changed the server to MAM-D, the shorter of the two options, the GP is a little too long for our Thursday, quick learn philosophy and closer racing.

Hey Bruce

Send me your sTracker DB file and I'll put it on my server, should work fine. Only issue I could see is if we're running different versions of sTracker where there have been DB changes. Looking at the readme's version history I guess my server is currently running V2.6.9. I can upgrade it if needs be.

Cheers

What would be good is a 'lite' version of Wally's parser that is launched from Joe's manager. Then we don't need stracker. We only need simple results for Thursday's - so Flattop and I can keep up ;)

Stracker is the devil.  It causes much warping, unless this has been addressed in a recent release.

Bird had written a parser for he GTLegend logs, manual upload, output results it was good... yes a 'lite' version would do the "Thursday folk" :)

we will give it run in a pre race sprint with the sTracker, then check again... and if okay, I would be happy if it was available. the championship functionality is such a time saver.

I think you can call my parser from the command line and it will return HTML, from memory. What kind of results do you need? Just finish positions?

Thanks Wally,  we will try the data migration to Joe's first, keep the current format if poss.
Will go other avenues if need later.

Hey Bruce, if you ZIP your entire sTracker folder I'll just put that on my server, that way we know it's the same version and database. Just put it somewhere I can download.

EDIT: Sorry just saw your PM, will email you.

Wally (and Joe), I think just finish positions at first but also the ability to display the season results and points tally eventually. I was thinking that an integration of Joe's manager with your results/league blog would be nice. Idea is to try and remove manual work from the process where possible.

If Joe's manager could execute your parser once a race is finished and then display the results on the manager web interface that would be a real step forward.

Definitely possible, I'm running the acServer process as a child process in node so my node code is constantly checking the output anyway to work out a few different things.

I still seem to have trouble parsing out the current session though! As you can see the web manager currently says:

Current Session: Qualify SENDING session index : 0 SEN

No idea why, but Bruce sent it to me. Thanks.

a "Site Admin issue" I have sent a message to one of the "all powerful ones" to fix your email inbox, not uncommon here :(
What I was going to send you:
Quote
no, not too late, qual will be 8:15 melbourne time
the 2 races are more sprints
if some is a little late, 5-10 minutes will restart if we know they are arriving,
so all good Cal.

Normally we are finished before 10pm Melbourne time.
It is all about some fun sprints, still competitive, we will weigh down any who are waaaay too fast from sprint one to bring the filed together, infact the aliens always request the weight to add to the challenge.

due to tech difficulties, the server will have "XGN Joe's " and maybe "Thursday"  we will be there.
cheers,
Bruce
and same old password applies if you need it....
fast

I have had to terminate my AWS server instance. I think something was corrupted or else I have reach the limit of bandwidth or cpu for the free period. I'll try again with a new instance but i think it may just have run out :(
