As much as I quite like this track layout I see no margin for error due to it being far too narrow imo for anything bigger than a go kart.  I can see 1 accident nearly wiping out an entire field causing a pile-up.  Let's hope that doesn't happen.

I'm sure the faster guys here at xgn will be hitting the low 1:50's, maybe lower..

Phil, the link to the track at Race Department is not working. Looks like it might be an uncredited rip.

Ok , what will we do, I could upload the track, but do we want to use an uncredited rip, personally doesn't worry me, but some it does :)

With the greatest respect to the modders who give me/us chances to have fun racing online,
if there isn't a credited track,
it fits the series, I don't have a problem using it.

Also, can everyone test this track for FPS issues? If it is causing performance problems we have a reserve track - Goodwood - somewhere in the UK I believe :)
Title: Re: Round 3: Thursday 27th October - Oulton Park
Post by: Shameless_1 on October 21, 2016, 03:53:47 PM
I think the reserve track is a better choice, with respect to the modders.

This track's fps was rather low compared to all the others. My fps in assetto is anywhere from 80-130fps.

Goodwood works fine offline... not sure what it could be.

Oulton Park is a pretty badly made track, easy to fall right off the map.

I am having issues with the '3 layout' version of this track and went searching for a decent version. Finally found one in the Triple7 racing BTCC season mod pack. AI works, track map works and there's only 1 or 2 spots you can fall off the map unlike the other version.

I've been running it with 0 fps issues with 16ai cars.

Here it is uploaded to my aussie VPS - http://games.xrst.net.au/assetto/oulton_park%20v1.1.rar Roughly  500mb for the kn5 file, compared to 360mb for the other one.

If people could give it a go and report back whether it's better or worse and maybe we can use it instead of the problematic one.

This version is the 1.1 version of the track deleted from RaceDepartment. It works for me and is a better version. If you install both Oulton Park mods at the same time this one has 34 pit boxes.
Title: Re: Round 3: Thursday 27th October - Oulton Park
Post by: rooshooter on October 24, 2016, 08:29:08 AM
I also think this is a better version with the added bonus of extra pit boxes, working AI and solid bollards at the chicanes.

Dunno what they've done to the game but I just ran a few laps in single player at Imola and it's choppy as shit. I have v-sync on and was getting drops from 59fps to 29fps at certain parts of the track which are usually fine, and even when GPU was reporting 59fps it still just felt choppy.

I turned my Vsync to adaptive in the Nvidia control panel (with vsync on in-game), as I noticed the FPS would drop from 60 to 30 as well. I reckon they've changed something in the way Vsync works in AC.

Cheers wally. That was my guess too and was about to do the same thing, though with adaptive in the control panel shouldn't it be off in game?

Guess it overrides the in game v-sync as seems to work. Assume they've done something where if it drops to a certain level the cap it at 30.

Try deleting the two "map.png" and "map.ini" files and enter the track again. It will crash and then track should have a map.

I ran some laps in the porsches at imola and all good. Vsync off and on, less tearing with vsync on @ 60hz but no choppiness. Maybe the 30fps thing is something for consoles?

Just tried the track, goes to show even ripping from a laser scanned Iracing source it doesnt mean the quality will be much good if the guy ripping it has no real interest in making a quality track. It was kind of hard to recognize the track and it looks rather low polygon with squared off corners and curbing in sections, poor textures and overall looks and feels nothing like in Iracing or pcars. It looks more like something out of GPL finish wise and I tend to avoid those tracks as much as possible unless we get stuck with one on a tuesday.

It would be great if Kunos made an official scanned version of this track as this rip I think I will be deleting from my install. Id rather driver the track in Pcars then this version but I understand that many people dont mind crappy content. Me personally Id avoid such stuff with so many awesome official and scratch made mod tracks available.

Tracks such as Donnington, Bridgehampton, Riverside, Lucaring, Baskerville, VIR, Barbagallo, Paul ricard plus many Im sure I cant remember along with any official track Id much prefer to race in any season then tracks as poorly made as this one. However I dont race Thursdays much anyway and with this type of stuff id rather do laps at Nords if I had a free night anyway. I have no issues you guys running whatever you want on the Thursday server though even though its being hosted on my servers, also you guys have been getting a few turn up recently so it seems Im pretty much on my own chosing only to run on the better quality content.  ;)

Executive decision
Oulton Park round turns into a Non Championship fun run Round.
The rest of the season stays the same dates.
Reason, If I delay the round by one week that takes us to 22 December for the final round and is probably not a good idea 3 days before christmas :)

Guys, I quite like the proposed format change for tonight. However, I think it was a bit of a knee jerk reaction on the quality of the Oulton Park mod. Not sure how many actually tried it but it seemed ok to me. Not great but would have been our usual fun combo for a Thursday. We've tried out worse! And it was only for one round.

I agree with Gratulin.
I've had no issues with Oulton Park at all.
Looks like the nKPro version ported.
Not the best graphically but still a cool track. 8)

BUT....

I REALLY wanna race the 917/30 @ old 'stone as well.... >:(

Means I and others will not have wasted practice time on this combo.

Sory guys I wasnt suggesting to change format or anything just throwing in my 2c that I didnt want, Im not going to be there anyway and as I said you guys race whatever. I just would prefer better quality stuff and would more likely race if that was the case. But most Thursdays im not home anyway so if people like that sort of stuff and with some decent numbers it means they do. No reason to stop doing it if enough are into it, I was just saying with so many better tracks around unused to me at least it seems odd to choose something back from pre kunos type quality.

Well done Joe and Rob.

What a disastrous night, I couldn't get a lap together around here or v1.1 of the track lol

Car didn't feel right and couldn't come to grips with it at any stage... was hoping for the fun run haha but yeh just the worse racing from me, 2 lasts. :-[

Awesome fun as always with these cars. Got out in front and got a good lead, maybe 20 seconds or so, which was good as I spun off onto the grass it T1 on the last lap, but was just able to keep position after re-entering.

Starting last I got up to third in the second race but then my wife wanted me to take the baby from her so had to bail. These DNFs seem to be keeping me out of the top 5 though  ;D

Just got this exact same issue in GTA V which is odd. Maybe it's a driver thing not a game thing. Highly recommend GTA on triples by the way.

Enjoyable even after my reservations about the track  :)

Hope I did not cause your spin in race 2 Wally, Gawaterman braked a bit earlier than I expected. You seemed to have a difficult few races tonight!

No,  that spin was all by myself, if I remember correctly. I spun twice there, locking the brakes on entry to the chicane and spinning off on to the grass. Pity, because I was having some good battles until then. But there was always someone to race with. In race 1 I had a side by side impact that sent me off into the wall with rooshooter after I passed him, but I haven't seen a replay so I don't know who might have been at fault there. I enjoyed the track. That far hairpin was pretty bumpy though.

I also had a very enjoyable night, as Wally said there was always someone to race. Which begs the question why are some tracks
more conducive to close racing than others ?
Wally I think you will find in the replay that I moved into your racing line, at least in race 2 I recognised your car in the mirrors and let
you pass. Should there have been a blue flag on both occasions, I don't recall seeing one.
Looking forward to next week hoping it will be as much fun as this week  :)

I think it's a combination of corners with passing opportunities, as well as chicanes. There were a couple of corners where you could definitely sneak up the inside if someone went a bit wide, and the slow chicanes bunch up the field, letting someone catch up to any pack a little easier.

I really like Oulton Park. A laser scanned AC version with all of the variations would be great.

The best part of the track is the tire barriers at the chicanes. No questions on whether you cutting the track not, If you make it through alive it was a valid line, if you dead then it obviously wasn't  ;D

Sorry again for bumping you off the track Hornbag. I underestimated how much room I would need there.

I really like Oulton Park. A laser scanned AC version with all of the variations would be great.

Stefano said many times its his favourite track, supposedly the scan data is freely available too which is how pcars managed to get a scanned version of the track. Next on the list is Laguna Seca however and beyond that who knows what will the next track to be done by Kunos.

It would be great to get a good solid official version or even a much better done conversion. Not all rips are bad after all Bathurst is ripped from pcars and rf2 and its pretty much the same as its in thise games. This Oulton rip I think is a very old rip from Iracing, not sure how they did it but it isnt really close to the version it was ripped from.

Im not a big fan of ripped content, bot realpy because of the legality of it but because those doing rips rarely put much effort into it beyond just getting it ingame. THe better modders taking pride in their work will likely not rip tracks but a few guys have and made some good efforts like the stuff but Mitja Bonica and Tiago Lima plus a few others. They may have questionable sources for the base of their tracls but they put the effort in to make the tracks to as good a standard as they can even making their versions better then the original source.

Look at the early Snoopy Nords, I think original base was GPL but it had moved on through a few hands and got upgraded. its still a long way off the official scan but it was a great effort to where it was and continued work was put into it.

Many of these poor quick rips just look ugly and have issues, to make a track from Iracing look lime something out of GPL says something about the work put in.

I had my usual slow start off the line, once I settled in I was stuck behind Seanus, I just couldn't pass him.  I found that with most of the race, passing wasn't going to be easy. Most of my passes were made by others coming off or locking up. I held up Bacchulum for a bit, but let him through as my rear end started to get a bit loose, I didn't want to knock him off.  I can't push this car too much using a joystick and I was trying to reserve my tyres which were in need of a change 3 laps from the finish line.

I'll go through the replay of race 1 either tonight or Saturday in preparation for the highlights video.
