Title: The Smoke Dick Challenge!
Post by: Dick Forrest on August 29, 2014, 07:57:49 PM
Something Marty and Guybrush both enjoy doing..

what? I hear you say.

The Smoke dick challenge
Beat my time of 15.12.611
Car BMW M3 E30 DTM

Fastest Smoker to date: Bird 12:30.204

Bird 12:30:204
Marty 12:40.159
Lemmy Caution aka Flattop aka Bruce 14:14:15

Quite simple really.

WARNING The timer doesn't work as you go past the 1st gate. You need to organise your set up then escape 'restart race' then hit the steering wheel icon and plant your foot. might loose a second or two. It records your finish time though.

The track is point to point..
Transfagarasan North. Hill Climb V0.4K
http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/transfagarasan-north-wip-v0-4k.13058/

from the AC link: Drdoomslab:
Hello Everyone. I'm very pleased to let you all know that I have started on this awesome 23.6km road and have been given permission by Goibaka to convert and update this track.

From the Transfagarasan wiki page:

The Transfăgărășan (trans (over, across) + Făgăraș) or DN7C is the second-highest paved road in Romania. Also known as Ceaușescu's Folly,[1] it was built as a strategic military route, that stretches 90 km with twists and turns that run north to south across the tallest sections of the Southern Carpathians, between the highest peaks in the country, Moldoveanu, and the second highest, Negoiu

There is meant to be a few holes but I didn't find any. I did roll a few times down the mountain and went back to pits so my times is quite conservative even for me. 13 odd minutes is the WR atm on RSR
quite a nice track. Not a drift circuit.

What do you win? The warm fuzzy feeling you get knowing you have smoked Dick!!!  :o

Lol you have issues  :D

Thats actually on my server atm unless it crashed, had fun racing 4 guys up there last nite and one was guybrush's best mate mr Hornbuckle. Really fun track I also made some ai for it so you can set it to 100% then see if you can hang on to it. I wouldnt recommend passing it or adding too many ai as it will have issues when needing to go off the fastlane.

The road itself is fricken awesome to drive in street cars and well worth having a go, if you dont push to the limit you can make it up quite easily as you would if you drove it for real.

Your pre ocuppation with male genitalia is quite disturbing but because your on the other side of the country we are both safe and can understand as that is quite common I hear.

I don't understand?? I think you might be the one that has the issues.. to smoke someone is to beat them in a race as in: 'left them in a cloud of smoke' That person being me, Dick. I don't even see what is wrong with that??

Besides, pretty strong words coming from someone living in Melbourne...

If you like these long tracks you should check out SS Mandagout - Payregroosse, another track called alps standard/reverse and petersbergrennen (Petersberg hill climb)

Yeah that one looks great. Slightly put out by having to email to get the download though. That mean I'd have to get everyone to do the same to take the Smoke Dick Challenge.

and I'm not getting many takers. Marty did some trash talking but he is still yet to post a time...

I will do your challenge havent ran any laps since thurs nite, just downloading the update and will put something up on my server not sure what yet. I will do the challenge, it seems like a good time though as I was a bit quicker in a standard elise on street tyres with green track so wonder if I can match that pace with the much faster DTM and a good track.  ;D

I'm not a big fan of these hill climb tracks to be honest.  Takes too long for me to learn them!

That's a GenY problem I think - short attention span :) Baby Boomers take too long to learn even the short tracks :( :(

Here's mine.  13:36
Shame there are no segments or any indication of your position....

It's really good fun, though, and a beautiful place.   I like these point-to-point tracks!

Thanks for participating Bird!
You clearly have smoked Dick Royally! I'll post your time up in the 1st post.

I agree I really like these point to point type races. This track still needs work but is very pretty already and the change in elevations is very realistic i thought. The scenery changes a few times. Love it. Yeah learning them is bummer but it can make a nice change from going around a track.

Bird has smoked Dick like a champion. If he can do it. You can Bacchulum.

Here is my Challenge, this dick is too easy to flog. By the way are you Polish by any chance as you could then rename it smoke a pole challenge also.  ;)

Also the AI smoked the Dick pretty well.

I've no time to learn it, I've simply had a few tries at it, failed a couple of times (drove off cliffs, hehe) and succeeded at run #4 or #5.  Funny that the previous run I got almost to the finish - but I had no idea I was there - and threw it into a chasm about 30sec from the top, hehe.

My first 2 runs up I went off the cliff on the last corner, that one is sneaky. Overall its fairly straightforward with only about 3 or 4 tricky spots you need to remember I have only ran it maybe 10 times. 3rd run up I made an ai file then the next couple runs followed the ai and it taught me where i didnt need to lift as much.

I tend to start of slow and find out where I can go quicker maybe from my real world experiance unlike some simmers who would need quite a few cars to learn a real world track.  :D

Well, we always knew you were quick Marty...it took me quite a bit to beat you here.  And I suspect it won't last long. This isn't a perfect run, far from it.

It's an interesting trick with the AI :)  But I prefer wrecking a few cars.  Man there are some treacherous edges and rocks out here.

I'm the fastest dick smoker! :D
Yeah I had to learn the track somewhat.  And change the setup a bit.

I just checked the replay, I've actually had a run-in with the rock wall at one point, then with the guardrail on the other side.  So I guess there's at least another easy 5 seconds in, and if I learn the last part better probably 10.  But it'd take quite a bit of time I think.

My lap time I ran against the AI and pulled well away but it caught me up pretty quick, I did lose the flow a little and setup wise I just used mine from Silverstone International round season 1 and changed the gearing a little. I think it could be quite a bit quicker especially with the hairpins I was kind of in between gears on most of those.

I see a new version is out so I may give it another run and see If I can be better at smoking Dick then you are. He must be loving getting smoked so badly.

It really is a awesome track. Not as twisty is you'd think.
I love the changes in elevation, ears almost pop.
Have you guys tried the one Phil talks about? The you-tube clips look awesome.

You could start new challenges on those once we've finished this one :)

It'd be good to see the pCars tracks converted.  There are a couple of really nice point-to-point road tracks.  I used to love love the azure coast one.  It's not hillclimb, and it's a bit more flowing IMO.

I reckon this one is plenty twisty.  I got dizzy going left-right-left-right-left-right :)

I have tried most of those rally stages, look real good but have quite a few roadside objects like small kerbs that acted like landmines. Youd really need pace notes on them or run them lots of times, much tighter with lots of blind hairpins. Very promising tracks just need a bit more work and if we get a proper pace note system tarmac rallying would be great fun there.

Once you give them an email address they send links to each update and seems they are working on quite a few tracks atm. I dont think I have seen the finish line on any of the longer stages yet but only had 1 or 2 goes on them.

Yeah that's the one Bird. A you tube clip of a guy getting around in a cobra. so it's not too twisty. But yeah only room for one car..

Was a bit sus about the email. Couldn't put it up as a dick smoking challenge. not yet anyway..

I think the one i posted is 26kms.. How long is Nords?
Title: Re: The Smoke Dick Challenge!
Post by: marty on September 01, 2014, 11:55:38 AM
Think Nords is about 20km but average speed more then double of that rally stage. So I think it would be quite a long run but I learnt the first few km just left a car at the bottom of various cliffs. Nit sure if we are talking the same track as in the email I think they have sent at least 3 or 4 tracks. All very well done and with some fune tuning will be some of the best roads in AC quite easily. I think they ate scratch built tracks for RBR.

I've just tried this again, after the updates, and I could only do a 12:31.460 without making any serious mistakes.
But I've done a few total crashes in places where earlier I could go nearly flat out, now it requires a definite braking.

So IMO the tyre model just got more slippery :)

I havent gone back to it yet but wondering what tyres are you using, I used mediums for my run softs are useless in these. Maybe be better at the end of the run on hards which I will try next time.

I was on softs...maybe a bad idea?

I just tried again and did pretty much the same time, I tried softs but they were shot less then half way up even mediums I am finishing with 97% at the rear. No idea how you get softs to last in the DTM for that long and still get any speed up the last part of the run. I tried hards but was about 10 seconds slower then on the mediums.

I dunno.  I can imagine a few things;
- I can gain a lot of speed early on with the softs, or
- I'm not driving the wheels off, and they last
- and/or possibly my driving style is very different from yours... :)

I'll try the mediums if I get a chance.  I've tried hards, but same as you, I was significantly slower.

This wasnt a Dick smoke  attempt but testing the new AI I made with my first run up in the Mclarens at 100%. Im always slow vs AI in the very twisty last 3rd as I cant seem to get the power down same in the dtm too which is where Bird probably smokes me on this run.

I just ran a few runs up here with Peter in f40 and p4/5 absolutely insane bit of road to race on. So much fun I highly recommend others to have a go. Not really any way to pass until the guy ahead makes a mistake but pushing each other is pretty intense here. It can be setup by server to run a single lap race just no real way to qualy so grid positions will be pot luck.

If anyone wants to have a challenge they can try beat my RSR time at Lake louise in the KTM. 8:26 but I had wear and fuel off as I was running laps for an AI line. WIth 10l of fuel onboard. Still cant run a perfect lap so theres another 5 seconds or so in that at least but its a pretty awesome combination well worth a shot. Its like a slightly faster Nordschleife but a few more blind crests where you need to know the line quite well. If you follow the AI for a couple laps you should get the basic line then figure out the rest from there.
