Didn't know where to put this so hope this is ok.
So yesterday morning Assetto Corsa crashed on startup with the usual message "Assetto Corsa has stopped working blah blah" but after a few tries it was ok again for the rest of the day. Turned the box on today (no updates to anything) and back to crashing at startup with the rare occasional success until I try to hit start and it hangs and takes me back to the summary screen. Thought I'd ask here first as I hate searching the official forums.
On the bright side I just went out and bought triple screens today so hopefully no more blind spots.

Do you know how to verify your local files in Steam? From the game properties. That will replace any damaged files.
-
Never done it before, I'll give it a go. Cheers
*EDIT*
228 files failed validation...Guessing that explains things.....Though no idea what could have happened.
-
Check your screen resolution in settings !!!!! Invalid HZ can cause this problem.
-
Ok, so after replacing all the dud files and checking the res and refresh rates it's still crashing but not as often. At least when it does start it runs and doesn't crash again loading the mod. Going to spend the day setting up the triples and will sort out later.
-
Does it crash when starting the launcher or when loading the game itself - ie. The track and car?
-
As soon as you start the launcher. I can get it to start after a few tries and then it runs fine til shutting down.
-
There is a log file in assettocorsa/logs (or close) under your documents. Something like launcher.log. if you zip it up after the launcher crashes and post it here, we can see if there's an obvious error in it. Otherwise, you can post the log on the official AC forums and get support there.
-
Prob no need to zip up, not much there:

I've asked my professional IT support help desk friend and using his powers of deductive reasoning and critical analysis he suggested performing the following:
1) power cycle your PC.
:P
-
I will ask the following stupid questions.
Does Rf2 still run OK ? or any other CPU/GPU intensive program ?
Was anything changed just prior to this happening ? Hardware or software ?
Did any drivers change with/without knowledge ?
Have you tried a restore ?
-
Also, delete or better still rename your personal Assetto Corsa folder in your User Documents area. That will make AC recreate that folder and contents.
-
If the problem is only AC related, as a last resort you can delete the Steam local content and AC will
do a complete reinstall.
-
oh, oh, I just remembered this happening to me some time ago.
It was when I changed to Win 10 and I tried to copy over my user data folder (from "Documents") over to a fresh install of AC. From memory I left all my previous user data out and started from scratch. Does this sound like it might help?

One thing you can try if the launcher isncrashing is run the launcher in window mode. Once its up press f11 and it will stay in window mode and also launch this way. It has no effect on the game itself and the game will still launch in fullscreen mode still if that your selection.
I first used this mode when I first got a 4k screen and after posting logs was suggested by the devs. I coukd use regulare full screen mode now most likely for the launcher but there is no point. It only uses a small amount of screen at 4k res and if running on triples it is the same with the 2 side screens being blacked out.
It avoids the crashing going from launcher to game or back that used to happen. Only issue is that at times I forgot to shut the launcher and it may be up for a day or so without me noticing until I go to run the game and it says its already running and I just need to open the window.
I really find it hard to see any point for anyone runni g higher then 1080 or triple screens to use the full screen launcher.

Sorry all, had to go into town. The only update that had occurred to my knowledge, was a Steam Client update. rF2 and Project Cars work fine. No switch to W10, still on W7. Will rename the Documents\AssettoCorsa folder and try the launcher in windowed soon. Just got my screens going and am majorly distracted........... ;D ;)

Further to this. I had tried everything, rolling back video drivers, validating etc, then the latest nVidia drivers came out the other day (before 1.5 update) and all has been good since. Weird though as I had the latest drivers at the time it started crashing and rolled back to drivers I had no issue with before. So it's fixed and I have no idea why..... ;D ::)

Thats Microsoft Windows for ya !
